ICO optometry interview

Hey guys,

What is the best way to prepare for the ICO interview besides going through the packet and CD they give? What should I read up on? Should I know about laws and current news and what are good sources for both? I'm assuming we should know a little about everything but can anyone narrow down where to get this information from.

Thanks and is anyone else going to be there this Friday?

First of all...RELAX! You already know the main topic better than anyone out there! (The topic is you of course ;oP) When I interviewed it was very laid back...just a conversation about my file and myself. I wasn't asked any questions about laws or anything like that. She did ask me how I saw the field of optometry 10 years into the future. It's not intimidating and it's definitely not a high pressure interview. You'll do great! Good luck!

My answer was that you don't really need to do anything special to prepare for the interview. Just know what motivates you to be in optometry. My shadowing experiences helped me to know enough to answer any other questions intelligently

Thank you so much. I think the previous person that commented was asking about how you answered the question where do you see optometry in 10 years.

Also in comparison to other schools how does ICO stick out? All I could find so far from researching is that their clinic is great but I'm sure others are as well. Anyone care to give me some input?

In an answer for where I saw optometry in the future...I basically talked about how I felt that optometrists may be allowed to prescribe oral medications in addition to drops more and more. Also...the office that I interned in talked about certifications for YAG lasers. So optometrists may begin to be trained and certified to use such lasers in order to do follow-up spot treatments for cataract surgery patients.

What set ICO ahead of other for me was the gut feeling I got while I was there. It just felt like it could be home there...I could see myself getting an awesome education there and walk away being a great doctor. It doesn't hurt that I have family in the Chicago area and it's the closest opt. school to home.
