I did a 4th year rotation at Idaho State this past summer and thought they had a fantastic residency. Pocatello is a small town that has really embraces the training of family physicians. They have two internists and an OB-GYN on their faculty that train the FM residents in IM and obstetrics and both are phenomenal. The third year residents were doing C-sections by themselves (not unsupervised, but they did all of them), moonlighted in EDs all over the state of Idaho on the weekends, and were some of the nicest folks I have ever met. It's an extremely family-friendly program (most of the residents in fact have children) and their program director Dr. Cree is extremely invested in the residency. They were a very tight-knit group and Portneuf Hospital loves the residents; physicians on staff will page the resident on call if there's a procedure to be done in the ER or something. Definitely very solid FM training. This program also had huge perks: free lunch M-F, huge food stipends for being on-call, ridiculously discounted tuition for spouses at Idaho State University. And idaho is a hidden gem...mountain biking and great skiing and hiking very close by. There is a very large LDS population in Pocatello, and at least 50% of the residents are LDS but most of the faculty are not and I never felt out of place not being of that faith. PM me with any specific questions.
