So I have no idea how bad an idea this would be but I just found out each year OUCOM sets up a website for its incoming class, taking the format www.oucom20xx.com/ and they have not yet registered www.oucom2014.com. So the thought occurred to me to register it and put up a little spiel about how much I love their school and why I would be an awesome doctor and whatever... like a PS with no word limit. And I could show off some design skillz. Of course I would put my contact info on it so when they see it after they have a little laugh they could e-mail me and I could give them back their domain. Domain reg costs like $10 and I get pretty much all the free webhosting I want from my job so I could totally do it.

Thoughts?

Ballsy to say the least, it would either be a really smart or a really dumb move. Only OU adcoms could tell you which.

Edit: Also looking at your profile you shouldn't have much trouble getting in being a resident...I wouldn't take the chance.

I also don't know how late in the cycle they'd get around to registering it. If I'm already in, it could be awkward... like, oh yeah I have your domain, here's the root password, please don't ask why I have it.

If you have it, they'll just make a variation of the url and cut you out completely.

Newsflash: I'm not actually going to do it. Just thought it was a funny thought. It would be pretty legendary though.

With your MCAT and GPA, I bet you'd get accepted regardless of what you do (as long as it's not illegal). But yeah, a lot of people are interested in finding out if you're actually going to go through with it. Personally, I think it would be hilarious and make the stuff of urban legends for years to come on SDN.

The worst that they would do is reject you, in that case, you have their url and you can post or link it to whatever site you like for added hilarity (may I suggest http://www.hornymanatee.com/). If you are actually going to pull this off though, I recommend that you apply to a few other DO medical schools in the area, you know, just in case the OU adcoms thinks this is too of a plan.

I just wanted to step in and say if you're really only gonna apply to one school, you got balls. Even if you had a 4.0/45 it would still take balls to apply to a single school with what a crapshoot this process can be.

This is the "jump to conclusions mat" of med school applications.

Then the point of bringing this up?

Why doesn't the school use .edu domains?

EDIT: Apparently the older sites have been taken down. I didn't see anything for 2010, 2011, or 2012. There was an IPB set up for 2013.

I'm sure you could do much worse than register domain names if you wanted. 😉 I somehow doubt they use the best security techniques for their websites. Go read a couple issues of 2600 and have some fun.

Well yeah there is that. Especially considering their attention to detail was such that they managed to get their very-badly-aliased logo to completely cover up several primary links (at least in my browser). But I don't want to do anything that might be even a little bit illegal, for obvious reasons.

OUCOM: If you get hacked, it wasn't me!

I would find this extremely funny, especially if it said something to the effect of "ok, not quite yet, but I'm really hoping you'll consider me!!"

this does not compute:boom:

Haha for some reason this just reminded me of that ESPN ad where the guy's like "I'm not a machine, okay? I'm just Albert" and then the photocopier is like "Albert, why didn't you terminate that hu-man?"

Just consider it a white hat ordeal. 😛

If I don't get into med school I'll get a job being like James Spader in Sneakers.

do people from the admissions committee read these boards? I would think so?

I hope so. Then they'll see my clever idea but I won't have to actually shell out the $10 for them to know I thought of it.

I don't think many admissions committees actually look through SDN; a lot have probably heard of it and know what it is, though. The idea of them lurking through these threads is silly. I'm sure there must be some individuals that do, however.

Nova does. We got emails talking about how we represent ourselves on here. I felt like I was to blame in some way since I always let it be known who I am.
