Hey guys,

I was recently approached by the director of my internship about assisting with developing a pipeline program for medical schools. My assigned task involves learning about what pre-meds have the most trouble with when they start. I was thinking about creating a survey consisting of a few open ended and a majority of close ended questions to gather this kind of information. What do you guys think? On another note, what was most troubling for you guys early on in your pre-med years?

Thank you for your time.

I think a survey with scales from 1-10 would work and where more detail is needed, you could do open-ended but don't make it too long that most people don't really care to complete. On the other hand, as a pre-med I think that choosing random classes in addition to the science classes was quite stressful as both carried unpredictable professors. Once I got the handle on how to organize my schedule and why exactly I was taking certain classes, I was having a better time. In fact, I wish that professors were more approachable. Rather than saying "this is a weed out class", I would have strongly preferred professors that said "I will teach you this course in a straightforward way, if you follow my instructions, you will get good grades". I think that early class professors specifically were just placed there to scare students who actually paid them to teach...

anyways, I ended up meeting amazing professors that didn't do that in courses that I specifically wanted to study and showed genuine concerns for. Got to say, I miss the summer, after graduating, while I took my summer classes, I just had this tunnel vision of wanting to go into medical school so bad but also learning courses for the fun of it and their application that I forgot about the grades and just started enjoying myself for the first time. It's funny that this happened after graduation.
