Hi peepz, I'm having a tough time coming up a good unique topic for speech class. Anyone have any good ideas that they would like to share. I kinda don't wanna do the same old issues of gun control, abortion, cloning, stem cell, illegal downloading, street racing and so forth. Any good ideas for topics or good websites on current hot topics would be welcomed.

Hmmm..is this a policy speech? For my policy speech, I was assigned the topic of school uniforms and I had to take the pro stance. The topic wasn't too difficult, you can find some good stats to back up your stance online.

Once when I was doing my undergraduate degree, I did a speech on how to make beer. Our assignment was to do an "informative" speech on anything that we found interesting and that we wanted to research. It was a big hit, I think my teacher was tired of hearing about abortion, stem-cell research, etc. Find something interesting that's also UNIQUE!!! Also, remember that with speeches, the delivery is as important as the topic.

How about the relative efficacy/danger of the Nazi v. the Red Phosphorus methods of making methamphetamine?

I'm serious - I went to a workshop on this very topic and it was extremely interesting.

(wrote it in HUGE letters on the chalkboard) I went on to talk about the components of blood (red and white BCs and what they do) and concluded with the heme/biliverdin/bilirubin connection which answered my initial question.

I was taking A&P at the time and was short on study time - so I studied and prepared a presentation at the same time.

I then told the "teenagers in the car/escaped lunatic with a hook for a hand" story. I then told the story of Mikey from the Life cereal commercials and how he supposedly died because he ate pop rocks and drank a can of soda, plus a couple of the other more common urban legends that we've all heard. I discussed the origins of the hook story and its social meanings, and discussed the underlying themes of urban legends and how they spread in how our culture. After these philosphical ramblings I took out a large balloon, filled it with some pop rocks, then I poured some soda in it. It made some good noises, but the balloon didn't inflate at all. Some of the students in the class were impressed, but they still believed that Mikey MUST have died anyway 🙄

I did a speech on diabetes in my speech communication class, and tested my blood glucose level in front of the class. I even got little pamphlets from work to give out to the class.

Thanks! Isn't she cute? Her name is Lillian. She was abandoned by her mom when she was ~1 week old and my husband and I hand-raised her and her sister Vivian to adulthood. Our other two cats helped out too - one of them decided that he was their dad and would carry them around in his mouth and give them baths (he's an orange tabby too).

They have a new home now (in the San Juan Islands, I'm so jealous of them) with some great people. I just rediscovered this picture of Lil stalking me and I thought it was cute enough to put up - I have to compete with all the dog avatars!
