If I am continuing volunteering at a place after i submit my application, what do I put for my end date and how many hours?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

So far I have 200 hours at a clinic, but I plan to continue until next January. This should put me up to about 300 hours.
1, Should I put 200 or 300 hours on my application this cycle, and
2, what is the "end date" I put on the application?

I am applying via TMDSAS and AACOMAS.

That's what I want to know also. I will just leave a comment here so I get notification when there is new replays 😀

Never count anything you haven't already done on an application. There's no way to prove it. A meteor could destroy your volunteer building tomorrow and not let you ever actually reach the final amount of hours for all you know.

Put the amount of hours you have now and the end date as the last time you volunteered there before submitting it.

Not sure of those applications, but I thought AMCAS allowed you to submit hours (including projected hours) through August of the application year. Check the application guide of each respective application and you should be able to find an answer to this question.

For TMDSAS, @wysdoc suggests: Planned Activities: Dates must be between Nov and August of next year. (in other words, what will you be doing between the TMDSAS application deadline and the time you might start med school ? ) If you are going to continue some of your current activities during that time, enter them again as planned activities. You might have some different things planned, or still be in school, or be working a job. No vague future activities such as "I want to raise goats and make my own goat cheese someday". You still can do that, it just doesn't belong on the TMDSAS activities section. Here is last year's TMDSAS thread: *~*~*~*Official TMDSAS Questions Thread 2019-2020*~*~*~* if you think of other questions.

For AACOMAS, I suggest including only the completed hours (which are quite solid IMO) in the header, but including in the narrative, " I plan to continue until next January for another 100 hours," unless they change their format for the upcoming season so you can divide out the completed vs future hours the way that AMCAS allows for (with their Repeated feature).

When I applied this past year, I put projected end dates for all of my ongoing activities. I also projected my estimated total hours. The best way to estimate is how many hours you’re spending doing the activity (is it a full time job? weekly volunteering?) and then just multiply by however many additional months I will be doing it after sending my application. If you haven’t already started an activity prior to applying I would just recommend not including it and saving it for update letters!

This is just what I did personally 🙂
