I've been perusing sdn for a month or so...I was never pre-med in college but now that i'm out of college i've started thinking about it (especially since I'm a first aid volunteer and I have a lot of pre-meds around me who talk about it so much).
And I've decided that pre-meds, med students, and doctors are such a unique/interesting group of people!
Like just the way you become a doctor seems so different compared to careers in other industry...the whole 'you're guaranteed a job once you graduate' thing just boggles me (i'm applying for jobs right now and so far its been depressing so far).
And the fact that there are so many people who work so hard to get a job that makes you work so hard..
I always really liked talking to the pre-meds i met in my classes or on the bus on the way to school in college. They always had so much on their mind. I'd ask them one question about it and they'd just spill everything. I like listening to people so it was fun and I'd try to offer them advice (I wasn't a great student but I've always been really good at handling stress and managing time). Sometimes they'd be really upset and my heart just goes out to them because they work sooo hard they shouldn't be this unhappy!!
I think if I could have any job right now I'd be a full-time counselor at a university for pre-med students. I'd help all the dumb ones bring their grades up and help them find ECs, and I'd help all the smart ones not get too sad or stressed out because they work too much and have no time for fun. I'd compile as much information from SDN as i can and organize it and then present it to people.
Or I'd be a therapist for doctors at a big hospital and I'd help all the workaholics who are sad because they work too much. Or the doctors who have no social skills or lives. or the doctors who don't know how to manage their money. But then again would they even be able to find the time to see me? Does this sort of thing even exist?
that's all.
