I know that some MD schools require students to finish whatever graduate program they are currently enrolled in prior to matriculation. Some also ask for transcripts and your acceptance is contingent upon continued academic success. Does anyone know if DO schools (particularly VCOM, CCOM and KCOM) have similar policies? What I really want to know is... if I am accepted before the beginning of next semester, can I drop out of the program that I am in. I just don't want to take out even more loans to complete a degree that I will never use. I would rather get a job to help pay off some loans. Since this is obviously not a question I want to ask the admissions department, I am hoping some of you can help. Thanks.

Sounds like you'll be better off asking each schools.

you could set up a dummy email account and email the schools under an assumed name. i did that once. no shame in it...

or you can call from a pay phone

i would definitely call each school individually and ask... because this is something that varies from school to school... GENERALLY....most MD schools want ppl to finish their grad work before entering...but im not a 100% sure about DO...

i was told directly from a ccom admissions counselor that ccom does not require you to finish your grad program to matriculate...in fact, the counselor said many people applly in the middle of their program and then leave their grad program to start at ccom. it's more common than you think. i would call those other schools to make sure if they allow this too..good luck!

thanks for the advice guys. since this may be a moot point, i think i will wait until i am actually accepted before asking the schools. i don't want them to think i am a quitter, but i really don't want to take out more loans if i don't have to.

btw, just wanted to let you know that if I was in your shoes I would be asking the exact same thing. It doesnt make you a quitter. You chose the program to get into med school. Once you are in, why waste the money and time?
