This is going to sound crazy, but since I'm a 3rd year I subscribed to New England Journal of Medicine.

Most issues there is an article of "clinical practice" or a similar review article. The stuff from these articles is absolutely gold for Step 1 (in hindsight). They are about 10 pages and an easy read.

So, if I had it to do again, I'd go back and see if there is a "clinical practice" NEJM article about what you are talking about in class when you are going through it during second year.

I also subscribing to NEJM and reading 1 high yield article before bed would REALLY help. It has already done amazing things for clinicals 3rd year in my knowledge.

I agree.

During my preclinical years I made the mistake of reading JAMA because it was free, and then I gave up. The NEJM is much better in many ways - more readable, more significant stuff, great review articles, and "Images in Clinical Medicine."

As a second year, I admit I am having a hard time memorizing so many aspects of these different diseases. I kinda wish I could find a place where I could read clinical cases on each individual disease we are covering. It really helps me put things in context instead of trying to memorize a list of symptoms and mechanisms, etc.

The case reports on NEJM are too advanced for me as a 3rd year. They are often uncommon presentations of uncommon diseases which is low yield for step 1.

But the "clinical practice" articles are amazing, even goljan quotes them in his audio.

Thanks viostorm,

I can see why you advised it.
