If I have the choice between anatomy and biochemistry, which should I take?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
biochem. About 1/2 of the schools out there require it as a pre-req. And it they don't officially require it, it's an unwritten requirement.

Biochem, like the prev person said, is a strongly suggested course for a # of schools. Also, I found biochem class to be a lot of fun, with anatomy being rather dry. You can review anatomy on your own over the summer if you think think it's good prep for dental school. It's pure rote memorization, so don't really need anyone to do the teaching. A good deck of cards and Netter's worked well for me.

I can only take a limited number of undergraduate hours for my master's program (I'm not funded yet, so it's all out of pocket and doesn't count toward my degree--yikes!) but I have a spot open next semester that I can fit either anatomy or biochemistry into. Which one should I take?

I've had/will have had general bio, genetics, biomaterials, cell bio, physiology, and tissue engineering for bio classes, and chem 2, 3, and organic 1, 2, and chemistry of polymers for chemistry classes, plus a couple of chemical engineering classes (nanomaterials, corrosion).

Which do you think I should pick? Which will look best on an application, and which will help me the most if/when I get into dental school?

Definitely Biochem. Anatomy will be taught from scratch in dental school whereas biochem they sort of assume you have a background knowledge in the subject.

I would take biochem and take it seriously becasue biochem will be one of the hardest class in dental school.

Anantomy is pretty strigh foward. Buy anatomy book from your local book store and study during your free time. Anatomy is relatively easy, physio is another story...at least for me. Hope that helps.

take anatomy (LAB) as pass fail. Therefore you will be exposed to it, but wont have as much pressure to get that B or A

biochem. it's also not as bad as the rep it gets. i actually (secretly) loved it

I would go for biochem. I have also been told that dental school starts anatomy from the ground up but, biochem is good to have before you get there.
