If I were studying for physics boards I would...

@ND - I know you have advocated for the Green book (Stinton/Stanton) in the past, but would you use this book instead?

I did use the Stinton/Stanton when I was studying as it was the best book on my level I could find. This new book was not available at the time. The trouble with Stinton/Stanton is that it is just a little too basic and does not quite cover everything. The nice thing about this new McDermott book is that it was written with exactly our purposes in mind. The chapters mimic the suggested ABR curriculum. It has lots of practice problems, etc.

I have no connection to the author or any reason to promote the book other than I came across it and think it is really good. I'd be surprised if it does not end up usurping Khan among radonc residents in the near future.

That's good to hear. Stanton/Stinson was a great resource for explaining concepts, but beyond that, you often would have to supplement with Khan and, especially, RAPHEX exams to practice actual problems.

A resource that combines problems with a good explanation of all the concepts would have been great to have a few years back.

Just picked up the McDermott book. They start with a review of basic mathematics concepts and move on from there. Looks like I'll be reading it instead of Khan over the next few months to get ready for my physics boards. (I also have no connection to the authors)

Anyone use this for the test this year? Hoping for a fresh opinion for anyone who just sat for the exam.

I used the McDermott book to study for physics this year. I think it's great to have as a reference, but I also reviewed old RAPHEX exams, old in-service exams, the new Khan physics textbook, and the 2009 Stanton/Stinton textbook. I think if you asked 5 different residents you would get 5 different answers as to what is the best study resource. I personally thought I learned a little bit from everything (learned concepts from Khan, Stanton/Stinton, and McDermott and learned how to do calculations from old RAPHEX exams). Good luck studying!

Just took the radbio/physics boards. I read McDermott cover to cover and found it to be very useful. I think if you understand McDermott and Raphex questions from the past several years you should be set. I thought the physics test was fair this year.
