will med schools look at the new MCAT score if I send it to them? I just took the August MCAT and I know I did horrible (I left my watch at home and that threw me off...didn't even finish 2 verbal passages). So I plan on taking it in April again and hoping that my other stats will at least get me an interview and then waitlisted. Will they look at the April MCAT score?

If your applying this year the April MCAT will be too late for most schools. But if your Aug test is decent and are under consideration then you can send them your April scores after you take them.

Keep in mind that this will be around June, so it will help you for a wait list but not much else.

hmm...i don't think it will help. i mean maybe if you're waitlisted somewhere they might take it into consideration, but schools are pretty emphatic when they say that they want mcat scores from april or august of the year you applied. i'm sure you did better than you think you did, watch or no watch. 🙂

well it depends on how many questions were on the two verbal passages you missed. If there were 16 questions total and they all count and guessed on all of them, I'd say it looks pretty bad.

What do you mean by if they all count. Are there questions on the MCAT that don't count?

it is debated whether 'experimental passages' exist which do not become a part of the candidates grade. there is a discussion of this and quotes from AAMC emails confirming this on the examkrackers website.

according to aamc rules schools are not meant to consider these scores. I'm sure if they were markedly different they still might but I would not count on this if I were you. If you are absolutely convinced you did poorly I would prepare for April viewing it as part of the reapplication cycle for next year. The april results for next year will not be aviailable till June of next year which will probbly mean those schools that you have heard from will have long ago made decisions on your candidacy based on this years scores,

there's supposedly one experimental passage in every section of every test. which one it is, no one knows.
