If SCOTUS rules against affirmative action, when will it go into affect?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Look at the admissions demographics for UCLA and stats. They could take more higher stat people, but they choose not to.

The difference could mostly be athletes and other extra-cirriculars, legacies and whatever admissions they sold to 'donators.' UCLA's incoming freshman classes don't have much in minorities (besides asians of course) so if they're secretly using AA, they're doing a really crappy job at it.

You still haven't provided any evidence. Link, please.

No person of any race gets accepted off of stats alone. So, UCLA choosing to accept students who have great accomplishments in other areas besides GPA does not even begin to indicate that there is "secret" AA going on. And why would you assume that it's the minorities who are getting in with lower stats and not whites?

Like I said, a little evidence would be nice.

wow, wah wah. I am sure there are plenty of premeds with straight 4.0's from Emory. Should have worked harder, brodog. What are you going to do, anyway? Sue SCOTUS?

Besides, the point wasn't to give you a personal safety-net.

I just had a good laugh. I know ONE pre-med with a 4.0, here. And that's only because he's a music major and has only taken gen. chem...

I'm not sure where you attend school, but we don't have many 4.0's here. I doubt God could get an A in some of these classes.

Here's a good article: http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/13/race-holistic-admissions-and-u-c-l-a/

Controversial topic but in the end affirmative action should only deal with class and socioeconomic issues. There are poor Caucasian, African American, and East Asian families in the world that could all use a level playing field. I think the race-based affirmative action was a decent start, but simultaneously an ignorant one. I saw a good african american friend of mine who grew up in a privileged home, with lawyers for parents, slide right into UCSF medical school in 2003 although she wasn't "sure" about being a doctor at all. I'd rather be rejected twice and improve, then kick a@@ in medical school rather than being pitied by an admissions staff and treated as a basket case the whole time there.I lived in Texas and was told it would be easy for me to get in at UT, but nothing in life that is worthwhile comes easy.

...This opinion is coming from a black male who grew up in a "ghetto" and now lives in one of the most undiverse places in america. (Totally unbiased)

I don't have any evidence, that is just what I think is going on. I could be wrong.

He probably has a 4.0 because he's a good student. Music classes do not just hand out As to everyone.

Not true. They practice a lot. I know a guy who is a music major and has a 3.98- he said he gets graded on his live performances
