Does it mean you are rejected? I'm really curious about this and no one seems to know. Or I could ask if your files are reviewed more than once. Thank you.

No way. If submission date was the only criteria, we all would have submitted June 1. Schools all do stuff their own special way. Feel free to spill your stats and info. There are lots of freelance admissions counselors on here.

not all schools review the files in order that they receive them. they might sort by highest GPA, DAT, EC, etc. so its possible to get an interview later in the process.

its best to wait and not freak out, that wont help at all.

Thank you very much. I applied in the first batch, I was assuming that I got rejected from schools that I haven't heard from by now. Crossing my fingers! 😳

I always thought applications were looked at by mailing date (or when the application was complete) because adcoms and dental school websites always say "submit early", "rolling basis", etc etc.

I doubt they mean June 1 but I got the vibe that submitting in early June was preferable to early July because less interviews would be filled. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hear that schools may sort through applications by GPA, DAT, or something else?

I know for sure Case sorts by GPA and DAT.
They invite selectively, and put everyone else on "Hold".

Columbia does this too with the DAT. But they don't even tell you that you're on hold. My friend applied to Columbia last year, and his file was completely ignored by them. They didn't even send him a rejection notice. He submitted early June too.

From the handbook on the ranges of DAT Academic Averages for Harvard, it's 20-25, so they have an informal DAT cutoff at 20. This helps them weed out applicants FAST.

So DAT and GPA sorting is pretty common among dental school adcoms. Not all schools do it, but a good number do.

yes thats exactly what i meant, as Albino said above, most schools should do rolling, but they dont really have to. rolling is advantageous and is applied by schools, but i dunno if its possible to know by which ones. 🙁

One example is a school I interviewed at last week where applying early is good, but they also sort by stats. They take the cream of the crop and continue to do so throughout the cycle. So a 3.3 and a 19 might be creamy in the first batch, but not even close a dozen batches down the road. With all of our applications being in a database, it's super easy to filter however they want.

one more school doing 'on hold' other than case & columbia, MWU
midwestern did this on me and i was insanely disappointed for a while.

but nothing i & u can do about it. just doing more shadowing (which I dont have much).
i'm currently working on something special so that when Dec comes around and the school goes through the stack of 'on hold', i can impress them and have a shot at interview.

dum spiro spero !

Did MWU inform you directly that your app was on hold or did you have to call/e-mail to find out?

Indiana put me on hold pending my Fall grades. I didnt like this, but nothing I can do about it. Probably will have to go elsewhere, if I get an an acceptance.
