if they ask about your weaknesses, ......

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Choose something like, "Anxiety in public speaking" or "Expect too much for other people", etc.
Then mention that you recognize your weakness and have attempted to overcome it.

This is really a question to see how humble you are and whether you can try to overcome your flaws.

Good luck!

i hated asking this question...and most of the psychiatrists on the adcom loved asking it..... go figure. it's a really tough question to answer because although you do want to seem humble and imperfect, you also don't want to come across as either someone with low self-esteem, or someone whose weakness could be something that can weaken a class. and there is no way to make the response to this question not seemed rehearsed...everyone thinks about it.

do NOT say " i try too hard"... i never realized how played out that phrase is until i had to help interview a bunch of students for a position on campus... my goodness, the times i heard that phrase was horrendous

i've got trouble assessing my own weaknesses.

I talk waaay too quickly! Gave that as an answer for a summer program interview, and the otherwise mellow interviewer burst out laughing. It's true, too... gotta work on that...

"chocalate." Great idea! Avoid the question with graceful humor. Humor can go a long way! I hated that question also, but chocalate never came to my mind as an answer. Doesn't matter now though. I'm there.
