so i've currently got 3 LOR lined up in eras (not written yet). There's possibility of getting a 4th LOR, but haven't approached attending yet. When I submit tomorrow, can I click the 3 LOR and then add the 4th one at another time?

title should be if you send 3 LOR now.....

Yes. you can send any additional information as long as its before the program deadline. What you cannot guarantee is that programs will continue to download stuff after certain dates or that they will download additional information once they've gotten the required info from you. I'd FAX the 4th letter just in case, if its going to be a long time before its sent.

So if we select 4 letters to be sent, but don't have the fourth one yet, would our application be considered incomplete until the fourth letter is sent?

I don't think so as long as the program is only expecting 3 letters.

I would not state that you are sending 4 letters on ERAS but simply add the 4th letter as it comes in (we used to be able to do that in the "old days").

BTW, are programs asking for 4 letters? Its generally not a good idea to send more than they request unless they are all so spectacular that you can't possibly choose between them.

essentially what you're saying is that the programs only download the 1st 3 LORs eventho we submitted 4 via the ERAS app? that blows...esp b/c i didn't know that.

I'm not clear if I am simply asking the same question here, but...

Can we submit ERAS without having all of our letters designated?

I have 2 letter writers lined up, but am still waiting until the end of this month to ask for a 3rd (dont want to assume they will say "yes" and designate it on ERAS). Will I be able to add a designation after my ERAS is submitted?

Thanks for any replies.

NO, that is not true. At least not across the board.

If you apply with all 4 letters, when programs download your application, they will get EVERYTHING that is on ERAS AT THAT TIME.

If you apply with 3 letters and then add a 4th letter later, if a program has already downloaded your information, especially if they have made a decision about you (ie, interview or not), they MAY NOT download anymore information about you. It is program dependent and there are no rules covering this.

You can add materials to your application at any time, but once you have applied, you have no guarantee that programs will download stuff added later unless you have talked with them about it and they tell you they will.

Does that make sense?

Can you tell when the letters have been uploaded by your school? My letters still say not uploaded and I can't decide if I should go raise hell at school or if everyone's says that. Thanks.
