To academicians?

Is this a frequent interview question?

The academic programs only want people who want to do academics (and will further advance the field). So either don't bring it up or learn to love academics and research. Community programs probably don't care as much, but you should try and get into the best/biggest program in a location where you will be happy for 5-6 years.

when i went on interviews last year... a MAJORITY of the interviewers said that they understand most people go into private practice and they don't push for academics.. this includes interviewers at johns hopkins and Duke, i was suprrised to hear them say that they don't push for academics and research at all
i see nothing wrong with telling them that

I was honest about being undecided between academics and PP. I think it hurt me at the "top tiers", however I am not sure I would want to be at a place that wasn't in line with my goals.

The top places did not seem to push me on academics as much as I thought they would. Stanford was the exception to this rule, but they are a very heavy research program. Most program do have a minimal research requirement though, usually consisting of at least a poster presentation at a national meeting. I usually hedged when asked this question since I had no experience with private practice Radiology (few of us do)
