I am constantly amazed with folks that are apparently serious applicants to dental school, but they can't figure out answers to simple questions such as:

Where/how should I rent a car?
What's the closest airport to...?
Where can I buy a suit?
What is the fax # for this school...?
I have a 23 AA and a 3.9 GPA... What are my chances for acceptance?
What should I write to fill out this supplemental app?
What is the best dental school?
To which schools should I apply?
Does whatever school accept this course as a prereq?

Honestly, I have seen every one of these posted at sometime or another...

So my answer to all of these questions is: If you can't figure it out on your own, you don't deserve to find out...

I can't wait to meet you in dental school. Yes, I'll find you... You'll be the one asking your neighbor during lecture, "I need to pee... What should I do?"

Learn how to think.

There are no stupid questions... Just stupid people asking those questions.

😱

"You dont know how to brush your teeth and your how old????"
:luck::luck::luck:

Good luck with your patients

Not that I disagree with your statement...just kinda mean. Let people ask the questions they want

Well, since you seem to have all the answers, I'll direct the n00bs in your direction next time they ask a "stupid" question.

patients or patience 😕

thought it was clear, sorry!

I said that along with the quote because I figured if he thinks such things are common sense then I cant fathom what he should expect his adult patients to know (and how he will talk to them)

But patience also works!

haha. I agree with the OP in most respects. But I guess the difference is that I wouldn't take the time to make a thread about it.

Live and let live....

Yeah, if those questions didn't exist there wouldn't be an SDN. Also note that the forum basically turns over it's users every single year, so it's not really right for old timers (like me) to whine and squeal every time someone re-asks a question.

..totally unnecessary post -- seriously. If they bother you so much, just scroll past that posting and look for one that is of interest to you. Some people just like reassurance, no need to cut them down because of it.

I wonder how people with such attitudes will deal with the stresses of working in a public field answering "stupid questions from stupid people" all day long -- patience is def some peoples' weakness. Why don't you be honest and mention it at your next interview, and show the admissions committee your true personality. In the meantime, get off the forums if you have nothing constructive to post. geez.

Everyone has asked questions here on SDN at one point in the past that I'm sure they'd think is silly now. If you don't think so, just check your own post history. 😉

lol true

I knew exactly what you were talking about, but I was wondering which version fit better here.🙂

Doh! Thats what I was thinking

Regardless, I find its a rarity to have someone on this forum bash people who ask "silly" questions. Usually its a few responses with the same answer or a slightly different version. Either way it helps the OP of that topic.

It's actually just Smooth Operater asking those questions...

Oh I had a nice post ready in my head but I'm just going to quote this instead.

For the record I'm taking the OP's side on this. I've seen some straight up dumb questions. Dumb in the sense that you just shouldn't have bothered asking it here and just gone and looked it up.

i agree. some answers can be found easily on the school's website or simply 'google-ing' or calling the school.

HAHAHAHA its because alot of people have no common sense. There's alot of kids in my classes like that. It's scary how they end up score the highest in the class too!

well, i'm sure you've asked some of these questions before.....its a never ending circle...i get a kick sometime reading the dat section thinking "wow, this was me not too long ago"

Here's the difference, au5233. As a dentist I expect to meet with people with stupid questions, and that's just fine. Remember, very few of my patients will be regarded as the brightest in their class and qualified applicants for dental school. It drives me crazy to hear this stuff from people that are apparently smart enough to do well on the DAT and are competing for the same spots as I for dental school.

i agree.

and i understand that many of these applicants aren't as old as some of us and are lacking MUCH life experience. but come on, if you possess enough brainpower to find this forum, navigate around it, and post something, you should be able to search google, search SDN, or browse dental school admission requirements from the ADEA website. am i wrong in assuming that?

looking back on my first year applying (i.e. last year) when I first came to SDN, I was amazed at how much I didn't know about the process, at least in terms of good advice. Some I learned from reading, some I learned from asking. If anyone thinks they have all the answers to applying to dental school, especially the first time, they are lying to themselves and everyone else.

If you think it is bad here, I would love to see how you would fare being one of the administrative assistants at any of the dental schools who have to field calls from stressed out applicants.

Quit being arrogant and cut people some slack.

i agree with lemoncurry.

you don't have to answer those questions if you think they are stupid. nice rant 😛

What a job they must have... I hope they're paid well.

Tell me about wasting server space...
i'd rather help stupid ppl (at least it's helpful to someone) than posting pointless posts that takes space...
if you're so arrogant and well-known about pre-dental stuff, i hope you get to stay here at the pre-dental forum forever and never make it to the dental form.

if you're so arrogant and well-known about pre-dental stuff

This is not just about "pre-dental stuff." This is about common sense stuff like buying a suit or renting a car.

EXACTLY. that is all i'm referring to as well. i have absolutely no problems helping someone with legit pre-dent questions. but, i guess i'm being arrogant, so i'll sign out of this ridiculous debate.

have fun.

As I posted in the suit thread, most college-age kids have never had a reason to wear a suit, much less buy one. And how many kids under the age of 25 have ever rented a car? Not everyone is fortunate enough to get to travel for pleasure, and these interviews very well may be the first time someone does travel outside of their state.

By criticizing people for lacking knowledge in these things which you consider "common sense", you're making yourself look like a well-to-do snob.

stop feeding the troll.

Hi guys, let me add to this thread by sharing a story which I would never forget:
Last year, I was assisting this dentist. Before we started, the patient, who returned to continue the treatment plan, asked the dentist "What are you going to work on my teeth today?" The dentist gave the patient attitude and responded without looking at the chart "That's your problem, if you don't know, then how would I know?" The patient almost jump out of the chair and beat the dentist up!!:laugh::laugh:

In addition, He graduated from one of the most famous dental school with Honor!!
😴 But..his attitude screwed him up!!

it may seem common sense, but many people who do have experience with a certain situation can offer their advice and any additional insight.

sharing info and insight is why these forums are here.
