That should read: "If you could subscribe to one journal. . . "

I've recently switched from thinking about a career in Internal Medicine to a career in psych and was wondering what journals to read. When I was into medicine, I enjoyed reading Annals of Internal Medicine and NEJM b/c I felt like they kept me abreast of what was going on in the field. I enjoyed the editorials as much as the research.

Are there any "must read" journals for Psychiatrists who want to stay up with current events in the field?

I imagine this journal would offer not just research but editorials as well. Also, it wouldn't be afraid to rip Big Pharma.

Thanks!

There really isn't a NEJM version for psychiatry - which is why I still read NEJM. If I had to pick one journal from the psychiatry literature, it would be Psychosomatics - obviously a choice based on my subspecialty, but also b/c it's by far the most practical and non-pharma biased.

NEJM is hallowed for it's wonderfully clinically practical articles.

People hate on it, but you might like Current Psychiatry.

Overall however...if there's one journal, I think most would say the Green Journal (American Journal of Psychiatry).
