People who just got their scores back.

Stop asking if you have a chance, stop posting your list of schools.

Look, if you got above a 28 and your GPA is above 3.0 you have a chance. If you got about a 30 and your GPA is above a 3.25 you'll probably get in somewhere.

This application process is RANDOM. You won't be able to predict jack based on your scores, stats, ECs, or LORs. If you need to be reminded of this go to mdapplicants.com.

I think those of us that just went throught this can assure you that you are stressing out too much.

the application process is not "random"...you can go to the aamc.org website, look at the data and get a pretty good idea of where you stand. yes there is variation around a mean. you can account for that to some extent as well. mdapplicants is a biased sample and not very useful. however, i do agree that there is no need to start threads that say "what are my chances" etc. because you can do the research on your own.

AGREED! BUY the MSAR and look up the info for each school or go to aamc.org and look at the general stats for people (esp those from your state), and you'll have an idea where you stand. People on SDN can only offer anecdotal evidence.

maybe thats what people are looking for

what is the purpose of this forum if people can only ask questions or talk about things that interest some and not all of the population?

There are hundreds of posts about people asking their chances. Do a search first before you post...you will probably find what you're looking for.

you people are not getting paid to answer anyones post. so if it irritates you then don't respond. If you are irritated by someone just asking for information over and over then what are you going to do when patients ask you the same thing over and over.........again? think about it for awhile because you may get a shocker. stop bashing people for trying to be thorough, and stop thinking of yourselves for once in a lifetime! 🙄 🙄

wow, excellent point! 👍

thanks fun8stuff!! I wasn't trying to be mean, just understanding of what the applicants and mcaters are dealing with right now. 😉

If the argument against people posting "chances" threads, etc. is simply that the answer has been posted before or can be found elsewhere in a book or something, then pre-allo need not exist at all.

It is precisely the function of this forum for people to ask any question they can muster about the various aspects of the application process. If you don't like the question, or don't feel like answering it, then don't. It always baffles me how people manage to get so offended by threads simply existing. There is a far easier method for dealing with such threads than trying to convince all current and future posters not to create them: DON'T OPEN.

I completely agree with Zweihander and sistahnik. I have been personally bashed by one SDNer for apparently starting a stupid thread. I wanted to know the proper way to withdraw and one guy said that I stress too much and I'm clearly one of those premed drones just living out my parents dream? GEEZ...who is he to judge? The purpose of this thread is to help each other throughout the application process. And just like what professors tell us in lecture halls, there is no such thing as a stupid question.

where did we ever get the idea that there is no such thing as a stupid question? of course there are.

I say keep posting the scores and school lists. Avoid pre-allo if those threads are upsetting.

Most SDNers are humans, and humans seek approval from others. Post away, pre meds.

Med school admission is more like a game. It has rules, strategy, and elements of chance. Nothing is certain, but there are trends and MCAT scores/GPAs/ECs/LORs can have excellent predictive value. Of course there will always be anecdotes like, "My friend had a 43-45 and was rejected everywhere," or "My friend had a 14 MCAT but the adcoms were impressed that the could re-construct a car engine so he got in." But as other posters have stated, the stats on the AAMC website say it all.

The best thing you can do is apply to as large an array of schools as you can afford.

The best advice I can give you is this, "Don't pin your self-worth to the med schools admission process."

Good luck to all!
