If you send a commite LOR, how many more should you send

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It depends on the school. I think the average is 3-4 with a comittee cover letter is extra. 2 science faculty, a clinical experience, and either a non-science (undergrads) or work exp (not-trads).

I think the websites for most schools give specifics on this, or maybe they will send with secondary packets . . . .

actually if you have a comittee lor you do not need to send extra....that is what the comittee lor is about combining the recommendations of various individuals on the said comittee.

yeah, that's what i thought too. i'm pretty sure my committee letter was all that was sent to schools. it combined 6 lor's that were written for me from undergrad, grad school, and work. i ended up sending in 1 extra lor from an extracurricular activity to try to get off waitlists.

My school does a comittee letter, but they attach the individual letters as well. No one who wrote a letter for me was 'ON' the comittee. The comittee drew from them, but it didn't make up for the actual letter

call the schools .. i did .. i don't recommend asking SDN to find your answer for this question.

call the schools.

Thanks all, I was just wondering because i am not sure if the commitee letter includes the comments of my professors, or is just a general letter

Then probably the first place you should try for an answer is your pre-heath/committee office.

exactly, i asked my committee what the cover letter looked like (they printed out a sample for me), whether it's a recombined letter (picking statements out of the original recommendations to make one letter), or if the originals were attached .. i also wanted them to tell me if my letters were outstanding so that i only had them send the best letters .. they also ranked me from 1-10 on the cover letter so i had them tell me what my score was also ... i felt that if the committee would hurt my chances (ranking me lower than 10), i wouldn't go through it .. however after calling the schools, the ones i was very interested in told me to prepare an explanation for why i didn't go through the committee if that's what i chose to do .. luckily i got a 10, but if i didn't, i still would've gone through the committee to spare having to make an explanation .. the committee should really be there to help you.

personally, i don't like the recombined letter option if your LORs are excellent .. i think it could take away from them, especially if your committee does a poor job .. however if they're good/okay letters, then perhaps it would benefit the student to have the committee combine them. the adcoms would have less to read subsequently.
