if you survive EVMS's interview, all other interviews are just routine procedures:

lolz, am I right? at least I think so..with those ethical questions ranging from abortion, birth control pills to respirator issues and the fact that it is a panel interview (3vs1), EVMS HAS to be one of the hardest M.D. interview eh?

i thought it was one of my easier interviews. had a nice convo about addressing teens with STDs.

EVMS was actually my best and easiest interview. Everything went well and they seemed very interested in getting to know me.

HOWEVER, I do not doubt that you had a tough one. I heard that some of the other panels on my interview day were pretty rough. So they are pretty variable. Glad to hear you survived, are stronger, and still have your chin up!

Try U-wash. They're well...very honest and forthcoming during your interview.

Hey Asama,
did you go on your UW interview? How'd it go? Mine was really easy and didn't conform at all to the scary stereotypes created by so many other interviewees, but that doesn't mean much as far as acceptance goes. 🙂

I went a while ago. It wasn't as bad as the reviews said it was although there were definitely people crying when they came out of the interview. I did A LOT of prep since I don't have the whole "I've lived in Washington my whole life and did all of my schooling there" advantage that everyone else there seemed to have. I was definitely uncomfortable during the interview and the fact that it went over the alotted time by more than just a little made me even more jittery toward the end. I didn't feel ripped apart or treated unfairly during the interview. I just thought it was stressful and was happy to be finished.

Just curious, what did you guys think of EVMS, especially you california and west coast folks? I really loved it. I thought the atmosphere was great. My only hesitation was their match list. Everybody seems to match either in virginia or somewhere else on the east coast. I'm just wondering if this is because most EVMS students are from that area and want to stay there, or because they don't match elsewhere. It's a great school but it's young and i don't know that it has had the chance to establish a reputation beyond the virginia area. any thoughts???

Yeah, at one of my HUMC interviews, my interviewer was a teen with STDs.

I'm a 4th year at EVMS and I can definately say that the interview here was quite difficult. Granted, it was 4 years ago, but the questions don't seem to have changed, from what I've seen.
As far as the match list is concerned, there are a significant number of people from Virginia and as a result, many people do stay on the east coast. Some people have families here with spouses that are already established in the community, so they choose to stay at EVMS. We have more non-traditional students than some other schools, so this is a lot different than what I've seen from schools in say, NYC. DC is also very popular for residency here. And our students get great residencies there: Children's National for peds, for example. We have students go to Hopkins all the time. You also have to look at what specialty the residency is in. Getting ENT and derm residencies are SUPER difficult, but we always have students each year going into those fields. We have quite a few radiology people as well each year. Our average for unmatched students who have to scramble is about 1 per year (out of 100) and this is usually in a very competitive field. Specifically in 2003, we had quite a few go to the West Coast: we had a peds at Stanford, medicine at Scripps, and 5 or 6 go to Denver for a variety of things.
As for me, I'll be heading to the NYC area for peds (I almost went into anesthesiology). Probably Schneider Children's or SUNY Stonybrook (I don't want to be in the city itself). But I got interviews at CHOP (ranked #1), Mt. Sinai, etc. I think it's a matter of what part of the country you want and how you rank in the class. Our top people always get impressive residencies.
