Hi all! I wanted to preface this message by saying that I'm extremely grateful for the invites that I've gotten so far and that I don't mean to be inconsiderate of others. I know that this is a tough process so far and simply want to get some insight.

I've been very privileged to have received three interviews from T10's (i.e. Yale). However, it's now been almost one and half months without any activity. Logically, I expected to have received invites from at least one statistically less-selective school and am wondering if there's a clear reason that this hasn't been the case. Any insight would be appreciated. Again, I don't mean to be insensitive in this question and acknowledge how privileged I am.

Some background:
1. Stats: 522, 3.95 (B.S./M.S.) from T10 | ORM male
2. Five 1st-author publications (2 journal, 3 conference)
3. Multiple executive leadership positions
4. 1K+ hours of clinical service
5. Strong LOR relationships

Respectfully, what is the point of this post? Are you concerned you performed poorly in your interviews and at risk of not converting any of your interviews into acceptances?

Look, schools are looking for different individuals. You, like everyone else, are a good fit for some schools and not others.

The wait it is hard, but be thankful for the fact that you have interviews, period. Everyone gets rejected from most of the schools they apply to, many times, without good reason.

We don't have your WAMC profile to make any calls other than what we read is your profile. Do you have specific "less-selective" schools in mind that you're opining about?

You have 3 interviews. Did you apply to other schools? What was your list like? You have a solid chance of being accepted to one of those schools. Maybe less than if you had 3 midtiers or state schools as the top schools accept only around a quarter of the applicants they interviewed, but you're in a good place.

Interview season is not even close to over yet and will not be for quite some time.

As for your situation: As long as you applied broadly (i.e. to more than just T20s) you will be fine. It is possible that some of your state schools/less selective schools may be choosing to interview other candidates first or may have just not gotten to your file yet.

In the meanwhile, take the opportunity to relax and wait, and continue to strengthen your application in the need that you need to reapply.

On a lot of threads from last year, I've seen several applicants who had, say for example July secondary submissions, not get interviews until December or January. This was the case for several interviewees in Harvard. Now, I understand that reviewers don't necessarily review apps in the order they're received but can someone provide some insight on how something like this happens? Is this always indicative of less favorability of the written app? Why or why not? Thanks!

Not an adcom, but from my understanding some schools will stratify applicants based on certain characteristics (GPA, MCAT, perhaps hours of extracurriculars, etc.). For others, it might just be that the committee member reading your app just hasn't gotten to you yet. Remember that many committee members are active physicians with their other things to worry about

It's like the NFL draft: You may not be as highly ranked as some of the other players, but regardless of if you're drafted #1 or dead last, you still have the opportunity to play in the NFL. It's all about how you perform after that.

For example, Brock Purdy was drafted last overall, but now he is an elite, Pro-Bowl caliber quarterback. Or you could be JaMarcus Russell, drafted number 1 overall by the Raiders in 2007 and ended up being considered the biggest bust in NFL history.

Point is, it doesn't matter when you get the interview, just gotta perform at your best if/when you do.

At least with the NFL draft candidates are ranked by scouts. In this process no one really knows how they are ranked at any given school and if they are likely to get picked up.

Very true. I think that's why we created things like the LM score to see how we hypothetically rank. This whole process is so funky

Hopefully things have sped back up. Been awhile since an interview for me too.
