Hey everyone,

I just took the PAT section of ACE THE DAT and I found that the angles were wayyy ridiculous. Looking at the solutions, a lot of the angles were only 1 degree apart or 2 degrees apart... 😱

For those who have taken the real DAT, how do the angles in the real thing compare to ACE? If you haven't done ACE, which practice test is most similar to real thing for the angles? Just wanna know what the real angles section will be comparable to. thanks!

I have not taken the real DAT, but I think I have heard this question before. What I remember hearing is that they can get as low as 3 degrees apart or so... in any case, better to be prepared for the worst 🙂

oh the real DAT angle rankings are just as impossible to scrutinize as the ACE THE DAT ones... really really miniscule differences.... i ended up guessing on all the non obvious ones.

I've taken the DAT twice and the second time was just last month. They did change their PAT section and to be honest the first time I took it, The PAT section was most like the ACe The DAt PAT. But the second time last month, it was a ton easier because 0f the change in format. It was definately more like Top score pro and not at all as hard as ACe The Dat. Don't freak out, I promise it's not as hard anymore. Concentrate most of your time in the other 5 PAT sections and get good at those, and the angle ranking will be fine. The part that will hurt you on it will not be in the angle ranking. It will be how fast you can do the other sections and do well in them. I hope this helped.

i thought that kaplan did a good job of letting me know what the sections are looking for (i.e. kaplan is easier than the DAT). Barron's is what got me ready for the difficulty of DAT questions (especially the angles, keyholes and top/front/end). Another good resource for tough angles is the ADA sample booklet test. The angles in there are much harder than the DAT. As was already said, get good at doing stuff fast. Get your cube counting down real well, and do lots of practice with pattern folding (kaplan subject tests were good for this).

Ace the dat's angles are almost all within a few degrees of each other! I was expecting the same with the real DAT but I found that most of the angle ranking questions had only two angles that were really similar. Sometimes those two angles seemed to be within only a few degrees (one or two) of each other. My advice is to practice angle ranking with ace the dat, and if you can get to the point where you're doing well then you can be sure you'll do just fine on the real deal. If you never feel completly comfortable with ace the dat, don't let it freak you out, because again the real DAT isn't as tough.

The diff between sample ADA angles is NOT 1 degree. I doubt human eye can tell the diff between 22 degree angle and 21 degree angle 😉

Here's is a related question, are we allowed to touch the computer screens during the PAT section?

i touched it, but make sure ask them first

you think i should call ada and ask them? because i have a method for angle ranking where i use the straight edge of my index finger nail. I grow it long for a while, and then cut it so that it has a straight surface. One for the left, and the other for the right finger, and then i start comparing angles like no ones business!

what do you think?

The angle ranking solutions from ace the dat tell you the actual angle which is why I know that some of them were within 1 or 2 degrees of each other! Of course you don't find out on the real deal what degrees the angles were, but some of them were very comparable with those from ace the dat! As far as ADA's sample test for the angle ranking section, it was easier than the real DAT!

I did the same thing for the DAT, but I actually used my big toe instead of my index finger.

You guys are really extreem in your methods!!! I just used a piece of paper! Worked like a charm!

i gotta say.. they were much tougher than i originally anticipated. i flew right through them in the practice tests, but i ended up spending a lot of time sitting there staring at them during the DAT. i bet i looked like a fool lol. anyway, time management is key!

that's it !!! u r super smart guy!!! U gave me the super right answer!!! that's right! we can put scretch paper on the screen, draw it, move to the next angle, draw at the exact same place and then that's done!

since scretch paper is not that thick and lights r coming out from the screen, we can draw it just like that 🙂

both crack that DAT and Kaplan are good. I took it yesterday. It was similar to what I had practiced. It depends on your luck too. Everyone has a different test experience. Good luck-

just took the DAT today. the angles were like the ones on CDP. very hard to distinguish but usually i look at the answers and eliminate by comparing the smallest & largest angle in the answers.

i got a 20 on the PAT portion 😀

Just took the DAT - angles were a ridiculously harder than I had practiced for but still did well on the section. Stare at them, rotate your head and stare at them, and look at the shadows in between angles - more shadow, more acute. And then stare some more. And when all else fails go with your gut.

PAT - 22

I personally think the angles on the real exam are pretty similar to what you see in CDP exams.
