If you're going to read 1 book before starting residency (and you have some $ for books from your internship program), which one should it be?
I've heard about the Chern review manual; Kanski's text; and Yanoff/Duker text. All 3 of these seem great, for now, and to have for later. They are definitely long, but when you're reading about ophtho, a topic all of us love, that's ok.
I've seen previous suggestions, but I wanted to try to simplify things and attempt to gain a consensus on 1 book being the best.

Thanks in advance!
And yes, there's always the possibility that I'll buy this book and it will sit on my desk until July '05.

Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the response. We got this advice from you last year and I've actually read both of these books during my ophtho externships (they were excellent!). But what about a step further now? I have borrowed 1998 edition of the Academy Series from an ophthalmologist-friend and have gone through about volume and a half so far (it's going pretty slow with the internship and all). Should I just continue and see how much I can get through before next July or should I switch to something more brief (like Kanski)? Your advice is much appreciated as always.

Hey guys.. Kanski is a good book ... but there are a lot of gaps ... it doesnt let U think .. rather throws the stuff at you .. Good luck
