Can any dentists with experience in either of the two give their opinion on pay, work/life balance, types of cases they see, and reason for or against one or the other? Thanks!

You can look up IHS salaries based on each location.
What region of the country were you looking? If it were me, I would stay IHS as you would be a federal employee. With tribal, you're a tribal employee and their benefits aren't typically as good.
Search Federal Employee Salaries
Search individual federal employee salaries by name, job title, location, agency and yearwww.fedsdatacenter.com
No it does not. You can not find commissioned Corp salaries of individuals online as they’re based on Navy rankings. These are civilian salaries. I live on an Indian Rez now and know the USPHS employees from the regular. Any of the civilian employees I know I can find on this databases, including my spouse. That site only shows salaries of commissioned corp members which, starting out, are typically lower than tribal hire salaries because the benefits are better. But commissioned corps is a big commitment, just like going military
I interviewed at IHS clinics across the country and it was a pretty standard 130k-140k for new grads
Interviewed at several IHS clinics, but ended up working for an FQHC. But pay was generally around $140k/yr with full benefits. Great work/life balance as pto/vacation/CE time is typically very generous. Patient base and break down of procedures performed is going to vary by clinic but typically most are heavy on restorative and oral surgery.
Are benefits pretty similar between IHS civil servant and FQHC employment? I understand that at least for IHS tribal hire the pay is a little higher, but the federal benefits aren't included.
