IHS Externship Program summer after M1?

Does anybody have any insight into the Indian Health Services summer externship program, particularly for the summer following M1? There are some other very helpful threads regarding IHS, where students had great experiences, but these have all been for M3/4. Would this be more useful to pursue when I have had more clinical training, or a valuable experience either way?

I did a summer externship in Gallup, NM after my M1 year. It was an externship actually funded (barely) through my med school, but I used it as a way to go back to NM (which is where I'm from) and see some medical stuff. I thought it was a super valuable experience, and it actually helped with M2 year a lot too because I had seen and heard of a lot more clinical stuff. It also was very eye-opening if you don't have much experience with the IHS or Indian Country, so I would highly recommend it for that reason. Let me know if you have more questions!
