saw a med student who ended up with 6 MD As post a tiktok on when she got her first II, last II, first A, last A, submitted her last secondary (12/15 but turned into an A) that would've made me feel more at ease during my own app cycle so I wanted to share.

It was reassuring proof that even if you think you submitted "late" or don't get an interview invite until "late," you are still in the playing for an eventual acceptance. I know a lot of us on this site were all about submitting ASAP, which is most definitely advantageous, but if you can't, it's not the end of the world.

Even if for this study n=1, it's good motivation to keep going this cycle as you wait!

She also says in another tiktok that her gpa was a 3.9 with a 518 MCAT so I’m guessing MD. Not necessarily the best example of “never too late” considering her stats put her in the upper 5% and she isn’t representative of the average med student.

agreed, tho, that her higher stats may have played a role in why she was okay submitting one of those secondaries a little later. curious if other applicants had similar experiences. I would also note that she said she applied in the 2020-2021 cycle, which did have altered dates and potentially more leniency due to the covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

the whole debate about medical professionals on tik Tok - med-fluencers are plenty on the app. just shared this bc I know I was stressed during my cycle about when I would be receiving invitations so her video on how late invites can turn into As would have alleviated some of my anxiety.

if it’s a private account it’s fine. But I think that there is a general perception (conscious or unconscious) that tiktok users have a tendency towards narcissism, immaturity, etc.

I guess in general, my company (well I guess it’s not mine, but the one I work for), has a policy against social media use (public profiles) besides LinkedIn. I suppose it has to do with managing material amounts of capital for others. In medicine, you’re managing people’s lives in some sense. So I see why there might be a crossover

At the end of the day we are not the masters of their social media account. She is free to do whatever she chooses whether it be good or bad, it’ll come to light. Harping on it honestly won’t change much but add fuel to the fire.
It’s a reality that many chase the M.D (among other things )for clout it’s just something that’s present and won’t be going away anytime soon.

I wouldn’t say being on TikTok automatically makes you “unprofessional” as with any social media platform. The content of the TikTok or whatever platform matters more.

I wouldn’t even say the wannabe Kylie Jenner here has anything “unprofessional” but just a cursory glance over everything she’s posted (which is either something about medicine or her cleavage) she’s just not someone I’d like to be around.

You SEXUALIZED a medical student who posts tiktoks in scrubs and passed judgement on her appearance in lieu of her achievements, which is something I've noticed "boys" who are insecure often do in order to undermine the successes of those around them. Being attractive and being intelligent are not mutually exclusive traits in a woman. I don't know if such a combination threatens you as you have been unable to excel in categories of both "looks" and "brains" or if it triggers your reactionary complex that you must find fault in others to elevate your own low self-esteem, but I hope you can evolve your attitude for I would not feel comfortable working on a team with you nor leaving any patients in your inept care.

Every woman with dark hair, fuller lips, and generally attractive features is not a "wannabe Kylie Jenner." Those are classic features of many middle eastern women as her bio defines her. I feel obligated to defend this student now that I've brought her to your ill attention through this post. I don't think she would even offer you the opportunity "to be around" her.

Yes, I am defending her as I feel responsible for the hate she's receiving as I did share her video on this forum for the purpose, from which we've strayed, of alleviating premed anxieties with an example of how late app submissions or interview invites later in the cycle can turn into eventual As. The end.
