  1. Pharmacist
So I had an interesting experience today, and w/o violating HIPAA, lets just say I had a patient ask whether marijuana would interact with the medication he was getting

The pharmacist and I were stumped. You can't find studies on this b/c of course it would be illegal to do a study with marijuana, well in most cases

does anyone know of a good database that INCLUDES illegal drugs, ie marijuana and others....

i was at first stunned the patient asked, but then I thought about it, and I'd rather him be honest and be proactive and ask, then not...

so
just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere we could find information like this?
(interactions, metabolism inhibition progression of Rx drugs with illegal substances)

Clinical pharmacology usually has weed listed under drug interactions if its a problem. chronic Smoking will induce the cyp enzymes so metablosm might be increased in some cases. I usually cross reference marinol and smoking (tobacco or otherwise) to make a call on a drug interaction

Yup, most illegal drugs have some kind of legitimate form of the same product. For methamphetamines and maybe cocaine, look up adderall/dexedrine. For heroin, look up morphine and/or hydrocodone.

There are alot more compounds in marijuana than just marinol though. At the UW Bookstore I think you can find some books specifically on drug interactions w/ marijuana.

Cocaine should have it's own entry. It's a C-II, in liquid form.

Whatever pharmacology text or drug reference is handy. Facts&Comparisons
is the easiest to come by. A PDR will do if your drug is listed. Looking at the ADME profile for a C-I controlled substance will give you many clues to it's drug interactions. Martindales is good or any poisoning/toxicology book,

The best I've found is the aforementioned Gold Standard's Clinical Pharmacology Online.

Im just glad i get it free through school and work, there would be no way i could afford it. CP and lexi-comp are my top 2 references.

erowid.org may help those with limited street drug experience

I know that Goodman and Gilman's has good info on drug interactions. I'd try there
