I have my application filled out, PS written, Lors ready, Mcat score ready......but I was advised not to apply............just yet.

My mentor advised me to wait for abstracts I'm working on and plan on submitting next week, so I can add them to my application.

My application has been ready and I could have applied on 6/2, but I have to wait. The mentor really wants me to go to med school and thinks those abstracts will help.

Will applying next week put me at a disadvantage?

Um, it won't hurt but what does it matter if you have abstracts done or not?! Just say they are pending.

just say you have abstracts in submission man, its just an abstract

and no it wont hurt AT ALL to send next week.

remember that you won't be complete at school until they get your secondaries. thats all that matters

They are actually almost ready, he will have to look at them and if needed change titles. Basically, all I need to know are the titles ( as the mentor would like them to be), so I can list them in AMCAS. But the mentor is really busy.

The reason I don't want to submit without him sending me exact titles is that he is writing me a LOR and I think he would try to help me get into my top choice school (where we work). I would assume it would be easier for him to write me a letter mentioning the abstracts etc.

You can submit it now and just guess what the title will be (you'll probably guess pretty close). Or you can just wait a week. Neither option will hurt your application.

Just wait. Mid June is as good as early June. Seriously. I submitted in mid July and still got some of the earliest interview dates at any school.

Dude, with your stats I would not worry applying in October .

But serioulsy ,Even when I told my mentor ( on Monday) that I would need to apply tomorrow (Tuesday 6/2) he said "do you really have to apply tomorrow." I said yes, and he repeated " Do you really need to press thed button tomorrow?" Then I said " no not really." I guess when another person is so interested in helping out, I could say nothing, But now I can't wait. I was preparing my application way ahead of time and took early MCAT so I will be ready when that day (6/2) comes.

Apply now!!! haha, though to be honest a week won't matter that much...either way abstracts aren't going to drastically alter your app. Then just send out an update letter to the schools you've applied to down the line when you get them published or whatever. They'll just stick it in your file.

A week won't make a difference. If your mentor is that enthusiastic about helping you out I say give him the week (or two) that will let him do that.

Beginning, middle, end of June is still June. You'll still be on top of the process.

ok here's the thing.

IF your transcripts are IN, and you submit next week, say June 12, you will be verified before first amcas submission date (assuming no missing transcripts or weird ****) and sent at the first possible date.

Even if its not submitted in the first date, if you get secondaries in july and hand them in and be complete at schools around august, you will be first in line.

submitting primary early or late does not mean **** if you don't or do submit secondaries early.

QFT. The only thing that matters is when you are complete at schools (primary+secondary+LORs+fee). Anytime in June is early. Keep in mind that many secondaries arent even available until July.

Just wait. Trust me when i say you are still earlier then a lot of people. I know people who've interviewed who hit submit in August and finished secondaries by October, no kidding.

So don't be so stressed.
I'm one of those people! Well, technically my secondaries weren't finished by October, but more like mid-October.

Relax and apply a week later.

Yah but I think a lot of people get primaries out early beccause the later you do the longer it takes to get verified and thus the longer it takes to receive a secondary in the first place esp. if alot of other people who sent amcas in earlier are already at the top of the list. Its a whole chain reaction.

But in this instance we are talking about submitting a week later in JUNE. Lets say (s)he submits next week ~June 12th. Lets also assume that it will take a month to get verified(I just made that up so dont freak out guys) ~July 12th. If (s)he is smart, (s)he would have already started on secondaries in advance. As long as this person has their LORs ready, they will be set to be complete mid July which is early. I highly doubt that verification will take a month in this instance, so my scenario was generous.

Yes, I can wait, I just got an email from my mentor where he praised the abstract and we will be submitting it. Now I can wait until the second one is checked and will apply later today or Monday 😀.

thank you guys.

Just some general unsolicited application advice:

When you find yourself freaking about something, like a one week difference in application submission and the exact title of an abstract, just step away from your app and go do something fun. I know this is all unfamiliar and you want to give it your best shot, but relax and realize these little details really won't matter. Good luck!
