I don't know if anyone remembers me, but I was here for a while last year. I took a "I think I want to do psychiatry" hiatus. I have since rotated through a PM&R spot and I am back. I just couldn't stay away, it fits.
So as a new fourth year student I was wondering if there is anything last minute I can do to improve my application. I am average all around numbers wise and have done great in clinicals, I have an above average grasp of the MSK system. I have not done "research" and my extracirricular activity revolves around private swim, cycling and running lessons as well as training myself. I just want to have an edge when it comes to interviews. For example what are some things I could be able to say when asked what I have done in the last six months (between now and Dec) that show my commitment to the field? Any help would be great! Thanks!

What kind of letters of rec do you have??
So far basic med. preceptors (fam and internal), plus I got one from the program director/ chair of the program where I rotated (PM&R).
I can get another letter from a physiatrist that I have shadowed (worth it?)

So in the next 6 months...try to get a PM&R preceptor to hook you up with some research. Even a case report to submit for a poster presentation would be a great topic for conversation during your interviews. I'm a big fan of volunteering too...it's fun, it reconfirms your interest in rehab, and shows some humanism. Since you seem like a sporty kind of person, try to put in some hours with a local disability sports group.
