I've been looking at the admission websites for some med schools and I've seen a lot of
"upper division biology including genetics [or zoology]"
or
"lower divison biology lab"

My problem is that unless you're a bio/genetics majors the genetics class at our school is only offered as a lower division course (bio97), there is no such thing as zoology, and more importantly, that we have no lower division bio labs (all the labs are upper division).

So...help? :/

A lot of times you can get a professor's permission to enroll in a class you otherwise couldn't take. Just find the genetics/whatever prof, explain your situation, and you can most likely get signed off for it.

I am not sure why a lower division bio lab would be required, unless it is to go with your general bio requirement. I would just take an upper level lab and would expect it to substitute.

If anything, look at what other schools in the area offer. I know my university had an agreement with the other local colleges that some classes counted the same for tuition, etc.

Try talking to your advisor and see what can be done. Otherwise, your best bet is with the above poster about talking with professors.

I'm pretty sure Genetics(bio 97) counts. As the major core classes at UCI blurr the line between upper-division/lower-division. UCI is pretty weird with its bio classes though 😕

Also even though your not a bio major you still might be able to get into Bio Sci D137 EUKARY & HUM GENET during the adjustment period next fall. 😵?
Good luck getting into 100LW though....I changed majors into Bio so I could take it. ftl...

Trying to organize bio classes so I can meet all the pre-reqs are killing me :/

so far I'm just following the "BME-premed" guidelines and hoping it'll be enough :[

Hopefully you're right about the lab! 😀 I guess I will talk to the professor when the time comes

thanks! :]

I did my undergrad at UCI and I am now 3rd year medical student / phd candidate at UCI. bio97 genetics counts almost everywhere! my advise.. take it during summer. Much easier with Dr. Abbott (one midterm and one final) I have all the exams if you want pm me if you have more detailed question.
