I've been interested in Pathology for quite some time, and after learning new aspects of the career it made me like it even more. The thing is, I don't know anything about medical school and i'm not sure if you need a bachelors in science before applying. I've heard many different paths that should be taken when becoming an M.D. I'm extremely confused and would like some enlightenment!

Thanks

you need to check out forum for high schoolers considering medical school. You are WAY too premature to be choosing ( or even seriously considering) potential specialties. you will need a batchelors degree. as long as prereq's are met it can be in any field.

Alright, thanks for your help!

While I agree with mikesheree for the most part, it is not entirely necessary to have any undergrad degree -- but it's essentially required for U.S. programs, a few streamlined opportunities notwithstanding for occasional Doogie Howser types. Overseas the 6 year programs are considerably more common and folks can start without an intervening undergrad education. The competition for spots in med school in the U.S. has been such that although you don't "need" a degree specifically in a science discipline, most go that route. There are a lot of perfectly valid and successful routes for earning a medical degree -- it just turns out that in the U.S. there are only a few mainstream routes, which you'll probably get more information about in other forums as already suggested.

Perhaps, but 20+ years after I finished high school where my yearbook lists my career interest as Pathology, I'm STILL interested in Pathology.
