Hi. I have been waitlisted at my top choice school. I was wondering from experience, what you or your friends did to get pulled off the waitlist. Do additional letter of recommendations help? I can ask 3 people to write me a letter of recommendation right now. However, I dont want to bother them if they wont help. Any other advice? Anything significant I can do to get myself accepted from the waitlist? How much would a letter of intent help? Thank you so much. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

you can wait until after may 15 before taking any action (according to one of my pre-med advisors). you can also write a letter of intent (which one of my other advisors said is ok to do).

i got off one waitlist by doing nothing. i talked with a guy who got off the duke waitlist (he's a current 4th year there) and he said he did jack squat to get off the list.

if it is ranked, then you probably don't have to do anything.

I got into my current medical school (also my 1st choice) off of the waiting list.

Here's what I did:

1. Called the admissions office explaining that I was definitely coming if accepted. They were quite nice and even told me where I stood on the waitlist.

2. Established residency in the state & made sure the adcom was aware when my legal status would change. This is helpful for both private and public schools (most private schools receive financial support from their states for "local" students.

3. Submitted an extra recommendation from a well known doctor that I was working with.

For me, it probably came down to my residency as they called me and told me that I was IN the day my residency adjusted (that was the day at which I had been employed within the state for 1 year).

i think it depends too on what school you're waitlisted at.
some have more movement than others.

i was wL at Ponce, and all I did was send them some homemade taquitos with extra spicy hot sauce, not to mention cuttin them a slice of my chedda cheese. I was immediately accepted soon afterwards, and the dean herself wrote me a letter of intent sayin she'd live in my apt if i chose her school, talk about role reversal dude.

In Puerto Rico, burritos and taquitos are not the food of choice. Perhaps your post would have been funnier if you said pasteles or mofongo?

Dra. Foxy, you are very right in that they eat mofungus and pasteles in Puerto Rico. But if I sent them to the dean, she wouldn't be impressed cuz thats wut she eats every breakfast, lunch, and dinner...so i decided to be OG, something they never tasted before.
