So took the DAT Friday! I'm DONE!

Previous Scores:
PAT- 22
QR- 22
RC- 22
Bio- 17
GC- 18
OC- 18
TS- 18
AA- 19

Recent Scores:
PAT- 20 (went down a bit, but I really am not disappointed. Should I be?)
QR- 22
RC- 21
Bio- 18 (It went up, not a lot but it went up)
GC- 22
OC- 25 (!!!!)
TS- 20
AA-22 (98.9 percentile!)

What do y'all think? I'm pretty excited, but do you think my Bio is ok? Is it ok that my PAT went down???

Solid scores! You should have a good chance at getting in for sure. 17 is average score for bio, so you're slightly above average. All of your other scores blow it out of the water though, so I wouldn't worry... at all.

Nicely done!

I think as long as you got a 20+ in PAT that is OK. Why was bio hard? Was Cliffs not enough?

Congrats on your excellent scores! Care to share how you were able to amazingly improve your OC score?

I used Cliff's, Barron's when I needed a different perspective, and even the Kaplan book/flashcards (took the Kaplan course last year).. Also used Destroyer. Honestly, for anyone who is weak on Bio, or just overwhelmed with all the material for that matter, I would really stick to some of the online quizzes offered at DAT Bootcamp and a few other places. I really thought that the free one I took was the closest to what I saw on both the first and second DAT's I took. I did not get good Bio teachers so I really was behind the 8-ball on the subject. I really like Feralis Biology Notes too.. Those are probably more comprehensive than anything.

I used the 8-week study schedule posted on SDN. I mixed it up, combining some of the first four weeks so I could go out and have a good time once/twice a week. If you are trying to plan your study schedule, I would really dedicate a summer to studying this stuff. I think the school year would be too busy, but that is just my opinion.

Bio- Didn't do as well, but I used Cliff's for the majority of it. I would read the first day quickly, followed by the notes the second day. I never had time to really review them toward the end though. The way I studied the last four weeks (the destroyer weeks) was I would take destroyer, and based on what I missed I would write down a topic or two each day to review. I would go back and retake notes on that portion, many times using a different source to get some variety. Put those notes in a spiral-bound notebook and every day would add to it. Did that for the four weeks and right around the last week, I went back and reviewed everything that had given me trouble during the Destroyer tests. I would also recommend the DAT Bootcamp tests.. Only took the free one.

GC- Chad's and Destroyer. Basically watched them once, but realized that I forgot some info around week 5 or 6, so I went back and rewatched the last few chapters. Basically Acids and Bases and Electrochem.

OC- Chad's and Destroyer. I really liked Destroyer and I think that you can get a lot if you really focus on learning the basics. You cannot try to memorize anything unless you just took an Ochem class. I took Ochem three years ago.. (Lol, i feel old) Really focus on the Roadmaps, and I even broke the roadmap into categories (ex. Oxidation, Reduction, Alkene, etc.) I DID NOT MEMORIZE ALMOST ANY REACTION. Some of the stereochem info is important for reactions, but nothing else. If you can get a good grasp on predicting the product, and can get through destroyer each day without missing more than around 9 (and learning what you missed) then I think you will do well. OChem for me was all about just seeing a TON of questions.

RC and QR- didn't study almost at all.. RC once and QR I did the Destroyer questions just to do them. They were good, really hard though.

PAT- Didnt focus on it much because of my 22 the first time. For me, I have talked to one admission's director that basically made it seem as if people are ranked more based on GPA and AA then your PAT score. The PAT score is more of a check in the box... Did he/she do well (above a 19 or so). The difference between a 20 and a 22 didn't seem like as big of a deal as the difference in AA.

Do you mind me asking what you got on the bootcamp bio test?

congrats .... ! It was very motivational for me to see you improve since your last test!

Just like you, on my first attempt I obtained AA=19 and now I'm re-taking my DAT in 3 weeks , and i'm so scared ! I keeep thinking what if I get lower this time 🙄

I kept thinking that, even into the test. All that does it make you more nervous. Just practice practice practice. Realize that you just know more than you do the first time you took it since you've studied twice. I was fortunate to finish the Science section 15 minutes early so I walked out of the room, got a drink of water and get refocused for the PAT. Just do as many questions as you can.. And also remember that the SCORES DONT REALLY MATTER FOR PRACTICE TESTS. Understand what you miss. That's more important.

I drove myself crazy getting bad scores on practice tests.. to the point where i questioned if i should even retake it. Just focus and don't overwhelm yourself with "what ifs". You know what you know... you can't control the questions they ask. Just take the test and I know you will do well.

why retake a test with 19 AA? i had a 17AA last year and got one interview with a 17 bio 17 gc 20 OC 19 PAT 19 RC and 14 in QR

I had almost exactly the same scores as you on my first try, I'm retaking in August or September. What did you use to study? Great job man

Congrats dude. You accomplished what you wanted. You did well. Good luck in Dental school.

Why would you retake the test? Did you get rejected? I think you had good scores to begin with.
