Hey all!

I'm kind of stuck at the moment. I graduated last May with a degree in Biology. I didn't do too well my first two years due to some medical issues and lack of focus. However, my last two years I did pretty well. I took some harder classes because I had planned to minor in Chemistry but ultimately did not.

I graduated with a cGPA of 3.16 and have a science GPA of 3.08.

All my prerequisite classes are a B or above except, my freshman year I received C+ in both semesters of General Chemistry and received a B- in my second semester of A and P.

I'm in need of some advice or guidance on what I should do. Should I try my chances and apply this cycle, without retaking those classes and see what happens, or should I try to retake those classes and apply?

I feel like if I don't get in next cycle, I'll be in the same position I am now, except cramming in classes while working a full time job.

I have roughly 3000 hours as a outpatient Orthopedic aide, around 60 hours acute care and I'm beginning to shadow a PT in a school district next week.

I'm anticipating on taking the GRE at the end of April.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

Can you retake the classes during the summer/fall?

That would be the plan. Unfortunately, it's difficult to achieve that with a full time job and studying for the GRE. But I'm sure I can make it work somehow!

You may find evening or online sections at a local community college or extension school!

My GRE gpa was low, but my hours and everything else on my application were strong enough to outweigh it for most schools. I had really great recommendation letters but I got into 8/10 schools so I would say give it a try it doesn't hurt, just be smart about where you apply if it's about money!!

I may have too! I wonder if they would take an online chemistry course.. I did well in the Labs. So I don't know if that would count!

Awesome! That's amazing to hear! I can try doing that too. Do you mind me asking where you applied and what your stats were? Was it as low as mine? Thanks 🙂

What is your pre req GPA right now? I think that will answer your question....

My prerequisite GPA is a 3.08

Your pre req GPA is pretty low so yes, I would cram some online or in person retakes in over the summer before applying. It doesn't sound like you have a lot of As in your pre reqs to balance those 2 lower classes out....so yes, retake them.

I personally got in with an identical pre req GPA, however, I had "As on top" in every class when I applied. So even though my pre req GPA was still very low, I had retaken every single class that wasn't an A to get an A.

I think if you apply this year, you have a very slim chance of getting in. So what if you got those classes done and then applied and had a much better chance this year? It might be better to make the short term sacrifice versus drag this out another cycle.

Check out the main forum for pre pt where everyone posted their gpas scores etc and what schools they were accepted to.
There are people with similar stats as you that have gotten into schools.
I'd say definitely apply to USA though, you have a fair chance there. But look at that forum and see what schools looked at students with low GPAs.

Thanks everyone!
