Congratulations, phillybabe! Which school? When do classes start?

Congratulations! I love to hear good news to balance out all the frustration that AMCAS is causing. Makes it seem worthwhile even. 🙂 Good luck phillybabe, all that hard work is paying off!!! 😀

Congrats!! Good luck in medical school.

Congrats! That is great news. Talk about last-minute...

Stop payment on the check! 🙂

Pam

Damn! Talk about last-minute movement!

Congratulations. 😀

I assume you got into NYMC, but I thought their orientation was already under way. 😕

OK Phillybabe, you have left us all in great suspense (at least me). Where did you get accepted? Were you able to cancel your check? Call amcas and see if they could destroy it for you. I don't know if they can or will. Hello . . . are you out there.
*aside to myself* she is probably packing and looking for a place to live.
I am very happy for you!!

That's awesome.

Congratulations.

Thank you so much to everyone. I was busy w/ orientation at MCV, so I couldnt write back sooner. I still have to call AMCAS to cancel the check, but classes start monday and I dont know if I would have the time to spend hours on the phone for AMCAS. I guess I'll just call my bank to cancel the check and email AMCAS. I bet the waitlists will have some movement until early Sept. So keep hoping to those on the list. And to those applying this year good luck and be persistent with everything. This process is incredibly long and hard, but its more than just worth it in the end.

Congratulations! 😀

WOOOoooooOOOOOHHoooooOOOO!!! Congrats.... it's nice to hear good news!!!

Hey phillybabe did you get in on August 10 Friday or Thursday and was you in state? I am going to EVMS but wanted really wanted to go to MCV. Good luck with classes.

Congrats Phillybabe! Call your bank ASAP (I don't care how busy you are right now), and put a STOP PAYMENT ON THAT AMCAS CHECK!!!!!!!!! I think the $10 or $15 they will charge you to do so, will more than be worth it in saving you from countless headaches dealing with AMCAS to try and withdraw your application. Do this immediately!!!

Congratulations on your late acceptance. Good things happen to those who wait! And yes do as the poster above states ASAP!!

I'm IN TOO!- I just got in off the Albany waitlist this week! I am truly still in a state of shock!

congrats to philly babe and to all of you who are getting in off the waitlist! I've been there myself so I know how happy you must be. Jayesh, I seem to remember that you were on quite a few waitlists like myself, glad to see that EVMS came through for you. My top choice school (well, tied with another school for top choice) came through for me too, to those of you still waiting, hope you hear good news.

so all hope is still not lost...may this good fortune that has been bestowed upon others make it's way to my telephone...

You all must have taken the MCAT in April. I will be taking mine next week so I'm not ahead in the game like all of you. Just a quick question--if you get accepted into a school, then how can you prevent other schools from charging you, meaning how can you withdraw? And do you get all the money back? Please let me know how it works. Thanks!

P.S. I paid by credit card. Does that make a difference?

medical22, these lucky acceptees are people who applied *last* summer for the entering class of 2001....they've interviewed sometime in the past year and are just now getting off waitlists to start classes *now* (or in the next few weeks, whenever classes start). so you're in a completely different application cycle, as i am assuming that you're applying for the entering class of 2002. they're an entire year ahead of you....so the april MCAT isn't what made the difference. 🙂

congrats, everyone! good luck in med school!

That's what I figured. But I thought applicants are informed by January or so to start in the fall of that year. These applicants are finding out a month before they begin med school! I still don't understand how come phillybabe was able to withdraw from other schools. Med schools did not review her application until recently?

depending on when you interview, a school can offer an acceptance anytime between october or so all the way through the beginning of classes, depending on the school (yes, that's a time span of nearly a year). if you're on the waitlist, then you may get an acceptance if and when a spot opens up for you. there's often a lot of movement on waitlists throughout the summer because people who are holding multiple acceptances are *technically* forced to pick one school by the middle of may. thus, a bunch of other available spots open up, and people are sequentially pulled off waitlists and given acceptances, which they can accept or reject if they have an acceptance somewhere else that they'd rather keep. this keeps going until a class fills up all of its available spots.

so it doesn't mean that phillybabe's application wasn't reviewed until now--it means that a spot finally opened up for her. she can withdraw from other schools at any time...and then that school offers her spot to the next person on the waiting list. and so it goes. nerve-wracking, isn't it?

Hey dooody how did Albany contact you?
I'm on the waitlist at Albany too, but have not heard anything from them.

Congrat. to all who got off the waitlist.
