Hey everyone just venting here. I had taken the April exam and got a 10/7/11 (28). I was fine about the science scores, but decided to retake because of the verbal. Well I prepared long and hard for this one, and a few days ago, I felt so completely lost during the bio section, that I almost wanted to cry. I feel like I did so poorly, and I know that I'm probably going to go down in the sciences at the expense of improving verbal by maybe just a point (if at all).

I'm just sad that I went from probably having a chance at med school, to now completely destroying those chances (if my score did indeed go down). Oh well, we won't know until October....

Sorry guys, just venting 🙁

You may very well just be having post-test performance anxiety. Cheer up. a 28 is not a bad score. So even if you held the same you still have a shot (with wise school selection and good essays for your secondaries.) You may find you will go up and down a lot over the next 2 months. Just try and enjoy the ride (I started off thinking I did poorly, then went up and down and finally ended up with a 30.)

relax...i know 2 doctors personally in my area that scored a point or two lower the 2nd time both are Dermatologists. The MCAT is also about which form you get....med schools understand this.

Aww, hey, don't get so discouraged!! You don't know how you did yet, and as many people can attest to in these forums, they thought they fared far worse than his or her actual score.

And in the worst case scenario that your score does decrease (which there's a good choice it won't!!), you haven't lost a shot at medical school. Just be prepared to explain it in an interview.

And you could always consider taking it a 3rd time. Now, with the switch to CBT, there isn't as much time between exams to forget information. If you kept up the hard work, you could take the Jan exam and ace it.

Seriously, I know it's MUCH easier said than done, but do NOT freak out. Most people honestly can never guage how well they did on the MCAT. Think of how you want to act in the best and worst case scenarios so you're prepared, but until October, just try to relax.

Good luck w/ everything and I hope your scores will be pleasant surprise when you do get them =).

thanks everyone for your encouraging words 🙂 It really helps!

Another typical case of "Post-MCAT Depression." You don't have a big problem. Just apply to schools that consider your best scores or the ones that average them. Ditch the ones that only consider your last attempt or the m-f-ing ones that are "looking for a trend." Goodluck and I hope you have a good reason to smile in October :luck:

Thanks guzzyron....is there a list of schools that consider the best mcat score, or do I just contact the schools to find out? thanks again 🙂

awww~I know how you feel! I took the MCAT last august and got a 32S and my weakest scores were verbal and bio....so I retook it this past Saturday and I'm *praying* that I didn't screw up on Physics...since I left 10 qs blank!! Just remember that you tried your best and that is ALL that matters.

thanks tracy...that's definitely brave of you to retake with a 32. I would be stoked with your score. Good luck to you!!!!!!! 🙂

Hello. I'm new to this forum so I'll introduce myself. My real name is Dome Vongvises, and I took the August MCAT. If anybody should feel bad, it's me. This is the fourth time I've taken the MCAT. I went from 24, 26, and then to 27. Trust me when I say this is the hardest one I've ever taken.

So don't feel bad. You could be in my shoes. 🙂

To you and the original poster: I'm really really sorry, I mean it. The only thing I can say is that some things are meant to be. That shouldn't discourage you, it just means that it's not your fault. Also, later on, after accomplishing a lot, you will realize that this test is just a tiny part of your life. Btw, I'm inspired just by the fact that you retook this test multiple times, it's very motivating.

Sorry I don't have a list. But some do state it explicitly on their websites under the prospective applicant or the requirement section. Some of the schools I'm applying to did. If not, then you have to call them because unfortunately, I don't think this information is covered in the MSAR.

Hey, this is what I got from the Tuft's website:

Composite MCAT Scores
Many applicants to TUSM apply with more than one set of MCAT scores. Our policy is to consider the two most recent sets of scores, from which we construct a "composite score" using the highest score from either set in each section of the exam. We then use the "composite score" in evaluating the candidate's application.

Example:

MCAT Sections VR PS BS

Most Recent Scores 9 10 11

Next Most Recent Scores 10 11 9

Composite Score 10 11 11

that's really cool.

your shoes are actually quite admirable...the fact that you have sat through this, ans possibly invested 4 summers in this, is quite a feat in and of itself.

i'm a canadian...and we have this program here on t.v. called "Doctors with Borders". the title is a spin on the organization, Doctors without Borders, as you may notice.

the show features four international medical graduates and their struggles in having their qualifications recognized in canada, and their struggle to begin practicing. i will never forget this one doctor from sudan. before he became a resident again, he had to write some international medical graduate exam 15 TIMES before he was able to practice. now you can think of that what you want (if it took 15 times he obviously isn't capable vs. the competition must have been really stiff each year...) blah blah blah. but after watching that program, i never once complained about having to write my mcats this year for the second time.

The MCAT is behind you now, and you cannot do anything about it for the next two months besides wait for the scores to come back. You do not even know for sure whether you did poorly, so there is no point in getting yourself all worked up about it right now. Try to put the test out of your mind and focus on other things like working on your PS if you haven't done it already, participating in your ECs, keeping your grades up, getting your LORs lined up, etc. If you are disappointed with your scores when they come back in October, you will deal with them then. Also, I know this is easier said than done, but try to keep things in perspective. Re-taking the MCAT isn't fun, but it isn't the end of the world, either. There are lots of retakers who are currently medical students, including me. 😉 Best of :luck: to you. 🙂

From the sound of things a lot of people are scared about this test, must've been a hard one.....Don't sweat it, it's over!
