A lot of people generally select 2 years to complete pre-reqs. I had to adjust my schedule to remedial classes. I started this summer and already adjusted my first schedule after scoring low in the math placement test. Any advice?

In the Fall of 2009 I will be transferring to UNCW when the New GI Bill goes into full effect.

I'm questioning whether I should go to Campbell then or not. I want to be close to family, which is near Camp Lejeune. I'm talking to Campbell now to make sure what I need to do if I do go to UNCW.

Any thoughts? If I don't get accepted in 2011, which degree should I shoot for if I complete all of these pre-reqs?

Your chart is easily read for Summer / Fall 08 - but then becomes very muttled thereafter.

As for selecting a major... You should follow a course work that will lead to some major. The major is irrelevant, as any will do. I chose botany because it had the least amount of courses to take outside of my pre-reqs. I never received my BS in botany - and that is perfectly acceptable for pharmacy school.

As to transferring... That is a personal decision. I began my college career at a community college (just after the Marine Corps). I did so because it was cheaper, so my GI bill went further. When I completed my AA, I transferred to the University of Florida to pursue a botany degree. This was meant to give me something to pursue while applying to pharmacy school - You do not want to waste time doing nothing. If you are going to a 4 yr university now, I would not waste my time or money transferring to another school.

Good luck - and feel fee to post up and let the community know how you are doing.

Sorry for the confusion. I am currently going to a community college. I plan on continuing to go here until I need to transfer. According to Campbell, I need to do high level sciences (Gen Chem II, both Orgo's) at a 4-year university. The closest one to my family is University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I plan on transferring there from the CC in August 09 when the new GI bill hits.

I'm currently living pretty well here living with my brother. I'm curious as to how long your GI Bill helped you out. As I am going year-round, I will be able to go to Summer of 2011 on monthly payments. I have been able to stretch out some of the money I got while here, so I think I can last another semester at the most before I start pulling out loans.

Anyways, congrats on pulling off getting into Pharm School. I will try to get a clearer picture up by tomorrow.

My GI Bill covered me for 3 straight years - I went year round, making the coverage 3 yrs rather than 4. From what I understand though, you should be getting WAY more cash than I received... I ended up matriculating the very same month my benefits ran out - almost 3 yrs from my EAS.

Finding out exactly what classes you need - and where you need to take them, is the right thing to do. I would caution you against setting yourself up for just one school however. Make sure that you course load is broad enough that you can apply to more than just UNC's Pharmacy school. Pick out 3 to 5 programs that you would like to attend - and make sure that after 2 yrs of course work that you are prepared to apply to any or all of them.

Steve - did you serve in the Marine Corps (referencing your Camp L. post)? What was your MOS? Remember that the lessons you learned in the service can be applied to school...

Nah, my dad is a retired grunt.

I was a squid, Crypto Tech. 6 1/2 years. Submarines. I'm hoping they take my PE credit from my SMART transcript. That's about it. I'll definitely fill out the rest in that last year for places like Chapel-Hill but want to make sure that I get at least all pre-reqs done for one of the colleges.

I still don't see how people get most of it done in 2 years. 🙁

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I can't wait for all the benefits too. I have the $600 kicker and the college fund as well, so I have a chance to save more.

anyone else got any opinions on this?

I couldn't get the image clearer sorry, but just wondering if anyone can encourage my plan or fix weak spots.

Thanks in Advance.

I think "most people" have Bachelor's degrees, so the 2 years in which they complete the pre-reqs are almost exclusively post-bacc science material.

You seem to be scheduling a lot of classes that aren't necessarily pre-req's for pharm. school and that's why you end up feeling like it's longer than it should be, but 3 years is perfectly fine to get all your ducks in a row.

If you take 3 years to do your pre-reqs, why not just get a B.S. degree along with it? It will increase your chances for admittance and it will also make you more well rounded in terms of learning different subjects.

not to mention it's becoming more and more a 100% requirement itself...

I can definitely understand trying to save a year of tuition, but if you can swing it, I would recommend finishing your BS. While the stats vary by school, accepted student profiles show high amounts of students with Bachelors' degrees (some as high as 75%!).
