Any objections to removing the "categorical" label. I think the vast majority of people will be categoricals, so if you're prelim/med-peds/research, etc. then maybe specify.

A quick question for you guys:

Are there programs who are known for only interviewing applicants one day a week? I'm wondering if I should leave certain days open for interviews I hope to receive. For instance, I have a friend applying to Neurosurgery, and he says Duke and UNC only interview one day apiece, and it's the same one, so in effect they make you choose between them. I know most IM programs will be interviewing far more than that, but I'm just wondering if some of them are known to have fewer dates to choose from.

I'm specifically interested in programs in the southeast, but I think it would be valuable information for any program.

Hey CaptainDave,
I don't think this will be the case in IM for several reasons. IM is a PC field and has more positions than the neurosurgery programs, therefore these programs need to interview 10x the applicants for each spot and therefore logically will need to interview vastly to meet this criteria. I read in one of the residency guide books that it is the 1:10-1:12 number that I stated above. Second, some programs state when they're going to interview, did you check there? Third, did u check last years thread, did they have dates? The IM personality is a little bit more flexible than the surgical, not to mention the schedule. Lastly, a girlfriend of mine last year was interviewing at LSU and Tulane and they purposely set up their interviews one day after each other, so that the interviewees could go to one and then the next, in fact my gf said that the PD asked how many of you are interviewing at the other institution tomorrow...Also our schedule above kinda reveals that most programs are interviewing TWTh...
