IM Question

Stupid question. If you do IM can you go back to a subspecialty after having practiced for a few years? Not wouldn't consider doing this, I am just curious. Also, are there different types of IM residencies - for example, one in which you cannot subspecialize?

Yes, you can subspecialize after having been out in practive for a few years, but getting a good fellowship will be slightly harder compared to someone who just completed their residency. I'm not aware of any IM tracks which don't allow you to subspecialize afterward.

yes...even those...although you may need to be more persuasive during fellowship applic/interviews on why you are changing

this is a totally stupid question, but what portion of IM residencies are primary care tracks? a relatively small amount? how are you able to know if a IM residency is a primary care track or not?
