Everyone else is getting interviews to my top choice osteopathic school, and it hurts. They were complete later, so I know I'm getting a rejection letter soon. Just about the only thing I have going for me is a really good MCAT score, so I may as well just crawl under a rock and give up.

Don't be so hard on yourself. ANY school will give you an adequate education, and most give you decent clinical rotations.

Besides, schools continually rereview your file, and they get through them in weird orders. Some might sort by GPA first, others MCAT, others date of completion, others a combo. You'll get in somewhere, and you never really have a first choice until you see the school and see if you mesh. My second ranked school looked terrible once I visited, and one in my bottom half is now top tier (1st-4th) after a visit, and I expect even more changes in ranking as I see other schools' cultures.

I don't know what luck you're having with other schools, but what I can most certainly tell you is that you shouldn't obsess over that *one* dream school of yours. I know it seems like a big deal now, but as you progress through medical training you'll see that it's pretty damn insignificant. All medical schools will get you where you want to go. If X School doesn't let you in, **** them, and focus on Schools Y and Z.

this is true.
Also, it's better to have a higher MCAT score and not enough clinical hours, or not enough LOR's, than vice versa. Maybe not in the short run, but it is easier to improve those other deficiencies. Some people, try as they might, just cannot raise that MCAT score.

Have you tried letting the said school know that you REALLY like them? Perhaps write them an update letter letting them know what you've been doing to improve your application, and that they are your top school of interest for reasons x, y and z? Or could you get a LOR writer to call them up on your behalf?

I hope you are getting in plenty of clinical work, since I think DO schools really like the clinical experience.

As long as it is a fully accredited school and has good residency placements, the school is not that important. What matters more is what you do while you're in that school and what specialty you get after it. I know ppl who have gone to schools that are not even top 200 and ended up getting a neurosurgery or radiology residency at Mayo and JHU.

Somehow I feel that if I do not get into this one, I won't get into any school. I'm not sure why I feel this way. I do plan to attend their open house and try to talk to the right people at the event.

Everything in life is about how much you want it and how much drive you have in attaining it.

We are all prone to getting down on ourselves, especially in this career path we are all working towards. If it were easy then everyone would do it, and nothing that was ever easy was worth a damned anyway (unless you're the guy who "invented" the pet rock or started up this stupid rubber-band craze).

Hey some encouraging advice, I submitted my apps the first day they opened and turned in all my secondaries within hours of receiving them. At two of the schools, people who were complete 1-2 months after me were getting invites, but I just got invites to both last week. A lot of schools will assign a packet of apps to a certain adcom member and depending on how long they take you may be early or late to be invited.
