I've wanted to be a doctor forever! And i was really determined until this last year (my junior year) of college. I took physics 1 and hated it! I got a B. Then in January i was taking my practice MCAT tests and doing so horribly on the physical sciences section, that i started questioning my goal. I had become interested in other careers and decided not to take the MCAT, and to put my dream on hold. I took the required second semester of physics, just in case i changed my mind, and got a C. Well... now i'm having second thoughts. That desire to be a doctor is growing in me again. But... i only have a 3.3 GPA, i don't know my science GPA, and i really don't have any good EC's right now. Should i start studying for the MCAT, try to get some EC's under my belt, and hope for the best? Do i even have a chance of getting accepted anywhere? Any advice if i should go for it? That's a lot of questions for you. Thanks for your input!

You can always retake some of the science classes that you made lower grades in. On the Osteopathic application, the most recent grade for a class is what's used to compute the GPA, so you really can make a difference. (this is not the case for allopathic, though)

You can do a post-bac program to improve your chances, too.

I don't recommend taking the MCAT until you're truly ready. Really depends on what you're referring to as a bad PS score. You definitely need a bare minimum of a 7, but really need higher (unless your BS & verbal scores are really good).

You don't have to give up hope, but it is good to examine your options. Physics is certainly not the end-all-&-be-all of medicine, so don't let one class alone be your deciding factor.

there are a bunch of other threads under both pre and osteopathic forums where people have posted their credentials for others' opinions. hon- just be glad you got a B in physics ok? and you're grades- they're fine. if you want to be a doctor, then of course you should apply. if you wanted to be a doctor, and didn't apply, well then, that would really suck, right? but if you apply, at least you tried, and you have a foundation for the next year. read the other threads, ok? i think you'll find them helpful

Hey man i took a practice MCAT back in the day (more like 1997) and scored an 18 on it.

I went to osteopathic school, was in the top 20%, scored top 1% on the boards, and matched into Emergecny Medicine at my top choice.

Ain't nothing stopping you.

I'm also that painless chancre on your penis, as well as that stinky flatus that won't leave the area for 30 seconds.
