So I'm applying to optometry school this year. I come from a Canadian university. I'm looking at the GPA conversion scale on OptomCas and it marks an 80-89 as a 3.0? wtf? Is this for real? The majority of my grades are in the 80's. Here in Canada an 80+ is usually considered atleast a 3.7 (and read most US schools consider it a 4.0).

I'm starting to panic. I've gone from thinking I have a very good chance of getting in to thoughts of getting in nowhere in a matter of seconds. Is this really how optometry schools are calculating GPA's?

Look at the rest of the threads in this forum, it's been talked about multiple times. The solution is to enter the letter grade you recieved (From your school conversion chart).

Quick follow up question: Do schools convert your GPA to their own system or will they just accept your GPA as what it is at your undergrad school?

I've contacted OptomCAS, they said just enter your GPA as it is on your transcript. As for me, I'm just gonna submit my grades in percentage and the letter grade given from my school (UBC). I didn't bother with the conversions since I already have the letter grades.

Don't sweat it, I think you have a pretty good chance with those grades!🙂
