Hi! I'd like to know what kind of contract will an IMG resident signs with the hospital: say in Ob gyn residency post the normal training period is 4 yrs; will the progam director normally offers a 4 year contract? Or it should be renewed yearly?
I'd heard dreadful stories of IMG trainees being asked to repeat the year and contract terminated in the middle of their training; seems that there's relatively little security.....how true is that? Thanks you very much in advance.

I can't speak about Ob-Gyn but we are signed to a year contract - same for ALL residents, IMG and AMG. We all are reviewed quarterly and sign the contract for the following year a few months before provided the program desires us to stay on.

No one signs a contract for the full residency training program - that would be pretty risky for the program; after all, you are an untried, untrue entity right now.

If you do well, there should be no problem getting yearly renewals.
