IMG friendly programs??

I think some programs like the University of Virginia rarely consider IMGs. Others are more friendly like Georgetown. You can always call up.
I believe UMDNJ, Michigan, and Emory all have exactly 1, with the Michigan and Emory ones posting before but I do not recall their monikers.
Ironical because PMR used to be one of the most IMG saturated specialties.

usually the programs with img pd's are more friendly to img's...they understand their plight...i am a carib student...this year was especially tough...there were some places like loyola in chicago the flat out said they did not look at any foreign school applicants this year...also...some schools list where the residents went to med school...check that out and see if there are any imgs'..that should give u a clue...

I know Albert Einstein/Montefiore-Jacobi in the Bronx, NY takes IMGs. I think at least half the residents are IMGs and when I interviewed there this year, half of the interviewees were IMGs.

Also, if you are are IMG it seemed to me that there were alot of foreign grads at Greenville, NC program (PD included). They had a very nice facility, big hospital with a large catchment area, and weather isn't bad at all. However I think the thing that drives most people away is the fact that its such a small town, mostly populated by the East Carolina University students and a few randoms... the closest "city" is Raliegh, NC or Virginia Beach, VA and still those are pretty small towns... I really didn't see anything wrong with the program or the facility.

Albert Einstein/Montefiore-Jacobi in the Bronx is a s*ithole. the fmgs who are in that program are only there because no other program would take them.

My suggestions is to "shotgun" alot of programs. 3 years ago I applied to about 50 programs(no NY programs) and received something like 45 interviews. Took 13. I believe the only place that flat out told me no FMGs was Colorado.

I'm sure the "shotgun" approach is still one of the best ways to go for an IMG but it has to be noted that PM&R is A LOT more competetive over the past 2 years. This is what the program directors have told me. The numbers I have seen also seem to confirm this.
Not sure if others experienced this during the interview trail, but it seemed a lot more of the older residents were FMG's compared to the PGY-1's and PGY-2's. Just a thought.

The Einstein-Montefiore isn't regarded as a terrible program. Whe I interviewed there, it seemed like the program really wanted an international group of residents. They turned out many excellent physicians such as Dr. Kalantri, an EMG specialist previously at San Antonio. Other than location (but not necessarily a bad Bronx neighborhood), Montefiore is probably stronger than NYU. The chairman, Dr. Fast, was a great guy to talk to. The constant pimping during the interview was a turn off for me, however. Montefiore seemed more focused on outpatient msk, unlike the other big 3 NYC hospitals. They were weak in SCI, which surprised me for the location. The program seemed comparable to the other Manhattan programs. Monte is definitely FMG heavy and probably a place you should look at, DrBon.prominence said:

I am a PGY-4 FMG at Montefiore program, and I really like this program. We also started to build up SCI program, both inpatient and clinic with a SCI fellowship trained attending...
