Hey all,
I know there is a thread on hospitals that take IMGs, but does anyone know specifically which hospitals take a HIGH percentage of IMGs for Internal Meds residency (and H1B visa preferably)?
Thx,
Here are a kouple of programs that are pretty IMG friendly and also sponsor H1b:
-Oregon Health and Sciences University
It's certainly not FMG unfriendly but, there is about 1 FMG each year (out of 30-35 interns) in the IM class, usually from places like Cambridge. So I'm not sure I'd call it FMG friendly.
Also, I don't think they've ever matched a Carib student and the only IMG they've matched in the last several years was a dual citizenship (US/Ireland) student who went to UC-Dublin for med school. I'm not very familiar with the current intern class but I don't remember seeing too many foreign grads on that list.
i guess its a matter of perspective, i keep on looking at this the way i looked at med school admissions, in terms of how international students were considered in the whole process.

Totally disagree with this. There are way more IM residency spots in the U.S. An average IMG will match somewhere. Fiscal issues aside, it's a major undertaking to have a U.S. medical school entertain a foreign applicant - and those that are interviewed generally have U.S. undergraduate degrees. From personal experience, it is almost impossible for an international with an undergraduate degree earned outside of North America to gain admission to a U.S. medical school.International applicants to med school are viewed WAY more favorably than FMG applicants to residency. They tend to be at the top of their country's academic pecking order, may have already studied in the US for awhile, and come with a fat wad of cash to pay their inflated tuition. Plus, there are minimal visa issues.
Search the threads.
There is also a website called usmleforum.com that is EXTREMELY disorganized, but they have a running list of programs that are sending out interviews and rejections as well. Most of the places that are on that running list of interviews sent out have a good amount of IMGs in their programs.
