IMG Schools Get Notified of Student Match Results

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To my knowledge, all IMGs receive notice of matching/not matching via the NRMP website and e-mail.

That wasn't the question.

The question was whether NRMP sends the list of where a schools students matched to off-shore schools, just like they do to US med schools. I don't actually know the answer to that but I imagine they do since most of the Carib schools publish lists of where there students match. They have to get that info somewhere.

I think those are student-reported, but I wanted to know if the agencies (NRMP/ECFMG) provides the foreign schools with the match information for their students directly.

Those are self-reported? Wow! That's not at all sketchy.
The schools admin totally finds out... do you really think they would publish "self-reported" residencies? Those self reported are consensual agreement to allow the school to publish their residency placement (verified) to the public with their name associated.

Since they put the person's name with it, not so much. Would I say I was at NY-Presbyterian if I was at Duke? With the insane nature of US FMG's, if someone falsely attributed which hospital where they were, especially if in a competitive specialty, any hospital that supposedly had "John Smith" in Neurosurg, yet actually didn't, would be inundated with calls, and, post-haste, that hospital would call that school and demand, immediately, that that listing be removed. Sooner than immediately.

I still think they are self-reported. Look at the American U of Carib page for 2010 Residency Placements. They already have quite a few there, prematches I presume, which are not reported to schools via NRMP/ECFMG/ERAS).

The prematches are definitely self-reported (otherwise the admin couldn't find out)...that being said, if you (not specifically directed at you medsRus) were the admin of a university where integrity means everything, would you publish something without it being verified in the chance that if it were false :eyebrow:your reputation and the institution you represent would be discredited? I can guarantee you that they are verified in one way or another. Self-reported doesn't mean that they aren't verified.....if someone is real bored they can pull up a list and start making calls to all the institutions.... but who has that time

Certainly, they are probably verified by the medical school admins. My question is whether the match directly reports to foreign schools where their students have matched.

Obviously I'm an AMG, but my sense from reading around sdn and valuemd is that the NRMP would be busy for weeks trying to collate this data for each and every offshore medical school. For every Ross, where 200+ graduates secure a US residency, there's a dozen Uzbek Institute of Medical Technology (fictitious) where one person matches per decade. Likewise for every Ross which actually cares about the match lists there's a dozen UIMTs, etc, which emphatically do not.

I think it's LCME-accredited schools only (though does anyone know about DO schools?)

the off shore schools have to pay a fee and then they're provided a list. not every off shore schools pays for the list, but the bigger carib schools like SGU, AUC, Ross, SABA I am sure do. for a fee the NRMP can also provide other data like over all what % of the students that apply match and how many programs they rank and which specialties all that other stuff.. but all costs money.

where did you get this info?

why is that sketchy. what is the incentive for a student to lie about where they matched?

I agree. And, the student could get dismissed for this false information too.

If the school participates in the EMSWP program of ECFMG, they will be electronically notified. Visit www.ecfmg.org and read.

I don't know if this answers the OP's question, but I have this to offer...
I'm a grad of one of the big 4 carib schools. The Monday after the match I got a congratulatory email from my school.

I sent them nothing. Seeing how ERAS has a record of your school, I don't see why a school cannot purchase a list of their grad's that matched.

My school (thank God) does not post the grad's names up on the website or in print along with the hospital--but some years ago when I was applying they did!
