IMG. Step 2 before Step 1 a better option?

I would not recommend it. I also considered taking Step 2 before Step 1, but all my seniors warned me not to do that, because the knowledge you get from studying Step 1 is used when you take the Step 2. You would be depriving yourself of that.
 
Generally speaking, once you graduate you have enough clinical knowledge for Step 1 but you don't have enough basic knowledge for Step 2. So taking Step 1 first will be a good plan. However, if there's gonna be a gap of several months between Step 1 and Step 2, I guess you will be losing that advantage.
