Ben Gurion student asks if my IMG status will make it hard to get into a given specialty (FM, IM, ER, etc.)?

Heard that IMG's match after allopathic and osteopathic. Assuming this is significant, but does this make our matching as hard as I expect?

Sounds like we only get leftover scraps 🙁

For the allo match everyone enters the same match at the same time. IMGs, FMGs and MDs arent allowed to enter the osteopathic match.

Generally, it will affect ur chances of getting into a given specialty.....unless ur scores in school and in the Steps are really wickedly high. For the most part, primary care specialties are the most "friendly" programs, i.e., FM, IM, Peds. Of course, others have gone into what they want with less difficulty than others....so YMMV.

It really depends on the program. I am an IMG and many people from my school get very good residencies and fellowships at great programs. You just have to work harder. Also, think of it this way, if we're good IMG's are able to contract outside of the match / pre-match where the USMG has to roll the dice in the match and see where they end up. I prematched this year and although I know i would have done well in the match it is nice to know we have options.
